Tropically Detailed: '04 Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale (33pics)

Todd@RUPES

Just a regular guy
The Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale was the race version of Ferrari's Challange car series. A redesigned body, liberal use of carbon fiber, upgraded suspension, less weight (by 110 KG or about 230 lbs), and a more powerful motor seperated the Challenge Stradale from the "normal" Ferrari 360 Modena. Basically, it was a car for guys who didn't think the regular 360 was enough.

This is Ferrari's version of a race car for the street.

The car was in great shape with just minor marring that cleaned up VERY easily.

Process/ Product Outline

Wipe down with Zaino Z6

Polish with

Menzerna SIP on a white (on a couple areas an orange was used to increase cut) @

1700 RPM

Zaino ZP-C on a white pad @ 1000 RPM

DeepFinish Deep SWAX

Zaino Z-CS

Zaino Z8

Zaino AIO on glass/rims, followed by Z2pro

Zaino AIO on interior and underhood carbonfiber, followed by DeepFinish Deep SWAX

Zaino Z16 on tires

Megs APC 10:1 on wheel wells, dressed with Megs Natural Shine

Zaino Z9/Z10 on interior leather surfaces

Zaino Z6/Z8 on glass

Plexus Plastic Polish on rear window (lexan)

Notes:

The rims clean very easily because the 360 CS has carbon cermaic brakes that have almost no dusting. However, extreme car MUST be used, because the rotors are highly absorbant and any silicone will leech into the brakes and render them useless, at almost 6,000 a disk! A lot of time was spent on the rims, ensuring both sides of the spokes, hubs, and barrels where spotless.

Okay on to the pics...

Polishing the car under the halogens. It was dark in the garage, so the shutter speed was long. Hence I am like a ghost :D

After a coat of Deep SWAX

The 425 horsepower engine revs to 8500 RPM to make peak power. Here it is after being detailed :D

a003.jpg

a004.jpg

Detailing the underbody/splitter while the Zaino Clear Seal cures...

a005.jpg

A lot of patience, some q-tips, Megs APC, Hyperdressing, and 303, and you get a perfect engine :D

a006.jpg

Swirls? Nope... :D

The interior carbon fiber was polished by hand (and a little passion) with Z-AIO and topped with SWAX.

a013.jpg

The leather was gently cleaned with Zaino Z9, and conditioned with Zaino Z10 for a great smell, and a great look. The carpets (floor matts) where shampooed, ever square inch was cleaned :D...

The weather was rainy, so the afters had to wait until the next day. Here is the car at the Winter Park Concours show... The weather was overcast and there was a couple light drizzles, but I did try to capture some shots when the sun peeked out. I was actually made, because this dark blue (with a lot of metal flake) would jump in the sun. Oh well :(

Always enjoy your work and the amazing cars that you work on . Thanks for sharing and congrats on an amazing work .

Cheers , Jean Paul

Great work Todd. I am sure that your skills are getting noticed at some of these shows. I am sure it will open tons of new clients for ya.

Todd, I ask about the head lamp covers on the F40 but should have just waited until I saw this car. Because the 360 is what I was working on last week. His is in black was was amazed at the swirls. Also the one thing I was impressed with in this car is that fact it is nothing but a race car. Almost all carbon fiber and steel. I got a kick out of the reverse button. I went up and down with the paddles and finally saw the reverse button. Get a kick out of moving these cars around! Anyways any help on the lamp covers would be great. Can't get them clear or even closed to it.

Thanks

Ferg, most Ferraris are beaten up because of the soft paint. I think every Ferrari should be sold with an autopian, lol. I'm not sure about the headlamps (are you talking about the turn lamps which are fixed or the pop up head lights? Do you have any pictures you could email me ([email protected])?

Thanks, I will get you those pictures this week. I was talking about the front lamps on a 360. But hopefully I can talk to you about it through e-mail. Thanks for the reply and I have to say that your work is STUNNING!!! I have done a couple of show cars and the time involved is staggering. Everytime you turnaround you see something else or something you feel you need to do better. i can honeslty say that you have it covered. Job well done is an understatement!!

The reflections of the "Prancing Horse" on the wall in the pics almost looked like they were part of the paintwork!

Another amazing display of your skills... your work is truly an inspiration and a benchmark we should all try to attain! :bow :bow :bow
