Tried out the Griots white Glass MF pads for paint correction.

Im not sure if anyone here has done this or heard of this product being used in this manner.

Last week I stopped by my local Griots store in Tacoma since I needed some glass polishing pads.

My weekend job was a 2007 Black VW Jetta which had so much swirls and scratches I knew I had to use my Meg's MF pads for this job but they had totally failed and the local detail shop who sold them to me refused to help with the issue. So my issue was I needed to do some serious paint correction so I picked up the Griots Glass MF pads package and it said it was a MF pad.

Well knowing it was much thinner and the MF's was much shorter so I decided to start out slowly with my Menzerna PF at the speed of 3 and I never went higher then 4.5 on my GG 6" DA so not to burn the paint.

Well I did clean and switch between the 3 Griots Glass 6" MF pads and I took my time since I was not entirely too comfy with this product since its main use was for glass and not paint. I took my time and learned what was a good pressure and speeds to remove certain swirls and scratches. I would be happy to say I believe I removed atleast 85-90% with these pads in a safe manner. All in all I think I was able to remove about 95% with my foam pads and other polishes by Menzerna and AutoBrite Direct UK for the finer swirls.

All in All I am very happy since it worked in a clinch and they didnt fail or even look they were even close to failing but I was very careful and walked a fine line.

Here is the results I achieved by the Griots Glass MF pads.

Nice job. Good thinking on your part to use those pads for something they weren't intended for. It looks like everything came out great. Maybe we'll see them in their next catalog along with their orange, red and black pads and not in the glass cleaning section.

Very cool test. However, I wouldn't chance anything like that when there's plenty of other better options. ;)

Yes it was a hella gutsy move..I was very weary about doing so I started in a small section and went very slow.

What you're describing is a test spot - something we always recommend doing before jumping the gun and polishing an entire vehicle with a pad/product combination that doesn't give desired results.

Excellent work! :rockon

Any chance you used a Paint gauge, if so what where the measurements before and after.
Good results, quite a aggressive pad though.

whats to gutsy? you used the wrong pad for the job. guys that are learning do that all the time. will you use the glass pad again for car paint? you might be the only one.
