Travel Time..........

This is a very good topic! Im enjoying reading all the other responses. With my company, Im based out of Omaha. While im here I do work out of my house mostly. If I do have to travel as long as its within 100 miles of my house its free. I charge higher rates than most, so i cant really justify charging someone for me to travel to there home, within 100 miles of my home. But since most of my clients are in other cities across the US. Like my next client is in Mesa, Arizona. He owns 150 classics and exotics. He will be covering my trip out there (0.30 a mile), he is also covering my living expenses for the time I am out there as well. He owns lots of rental properties across AZ, so he said instead of renting an extended stay motel for 9 months, he would put me in the nearest rental property to his shop. Which is 2.3 miles away and nearly 3 times the size of my house =P~ Of course i wont charge travel expenses to and from his shop daily. Typically when a client is willing to pay for my living expenses while im at a location for longer than a month, I will drop my prices by about 5-10%, but thats only for my basic services (not including complete wet sand/buffing, large boats/yachts, semis, or other large/obscure equipment). In Omaha I charge about half of what I normally charge on the road.

I've never charged but then again I've never traveled outside of a 30 mile radius just because most of the clients were within that range. Something to consider in the future though.
.30 -.50 per mile....I like that.
