Toyota halts sales of Lexus

So it would have been better to keep selling them? I know of a company that did that back in the mid to late eighties with a design that was prone to rollover....

And it ought to be common sense that something that big that sits that high off the ground has a high center of gravity and will be very easy to turn over. Am I missing something here?

I'm sure the media smear campaign will start shortly! Very convenient that it happens as GM puts out a 6 million vehicle recall.

Point to add: Just what does the government designate as "stability control?" I doubt any high profile SUV can have "stability control" to the point that a roll over risk in driving situations can be completely avoided.

I just observed an SUV roll over yesterday right in front of me doing like 70mph. Looks like she over corrected and started to fish tail and you knew it was coming over she went. I rushed over there thiking someone was going to be really hurt. Not a scratch but obviously very freaked out. I got to say I was impressed that you can flip an SUV like that and slam into a concrete divider and just walk away. I think it was a tribute or something of that size.

been driving SUV's of many different mfgs for a long time in all sorts of weather conditions and never came close to a roll over ... I think it's more of the driver's ability than the vehicle and it's options(traction control):hmmm:

I completely agree. I think a lot of these out-of-control recalls (not just Toyota ones) are related a lot more to driver error and stupidity (or lack of common sense) than anything else. In this case, it's a high sitting SUV. Of course it's going to be unsafe if you drive it like a sedan or sports car.

No traction control system can erase driver stupidity, lack of experience, or lack of attention.
