Towels?

Which towels do I use for what?

100% cotton = for?

MF towels = for?

Sorry to sound so ignorant...Just confused I always used just a regular towel for everything til i came her. Usually just a random beach towel.

I generally don't use cotton towels anymore. When I do, it's for door seals, etc.

I use waffle weave microfibers for drying and others as needed. More plush for final detailing.

Im confused though I've been washing cars since i was 12 years old and I always used just a big beach towel or an old towel. What was wrong with this? I didn't notice any scratchs on the cars?

We've all been there once rOdxx.....

I guarantee there were scratches all over those cars.

It has to do with composition of the material, the dyes, etc.

There's plenty of reading if you search.

If you used an old cotton terry towel, these aren't the worst thing you could have used, however there's a number of reasons why MF is far superior. MF is far softer than almost all cotton, it absorbs and holds water far better, and it cleans up better which means the dirt from your last washing isn't being scraped across your finish on the next washing.

Everytime I go to pep boys/auto zone all i see is a packet of 3 MF towels but they are soo small. Anywhere I can get a big towel?

Wal-Mart sells a large towel (27 x 40) that really isn't too bad, although I personally prefer a WW (waffle weave MF) for initial drying followed up with an Excel Detail or PakShak regular MF.

You'll find that a quality MF will absorb more water than the typical old cotton towels you were using.

Get a couple of good WW (waffle weave) MF's for drying along with some other MF's for detailing (wax/polish removal, QDing, etc.)

The ballpark size for a WW used for drying is about 25 x 36. The normal size MF used for detailing is 16 x 16, but PakShak does have a larger size available (24 x 24).

If you order from PakShak e-mail them first for a very hefty discount for members of Autopia.
