Total newbie - clay, etc

I just placed an order with PakShak for the 1Z PP and with Autopia for the medium grit clay, applicators and MF towels.

I'm going to follow the 1Z PP with the Meguiars Gold Class liquid wax I already purchased.

Uh-oh...did you order the Sonus Gray clay? It's been marring paint for people (myself included) and I wouldn't recommend it in your case. No no I'm not trying to take any sales away from David/Lynn...

Check your progress with the Gold Class, it might strip off the stuff that the 1z paint polish leaves behind, leading to marring "coming back". But that's a "might" not a "will" :nixweiss

You might call the Autopia store and substitute the Claymagic kit for the Sonus gray.

FWIW my all-time favorite clay for what you're doing is the somewhat pricey SmartWax clay. But they might be all sold out of it (it's been discontinued and I bought a bunch from them that might've cleaned them out).

I dunno if the (potential) marring from the Sonus gray clay will be too much for the 1z Paint Polish to remove, but I'd like to head off any potential headaches if I can.

I left them a message... do I want the Clay Magic medium grit or the fine? What about the Sonus fine, (green bar)?

Sounds like the Gold Class may not be the best... What wax would you recommend???

Thanks,

Lori

lvalesko- I've contacted them as well, explaining what's going on. You might mention my email to them (so they can look it up in case they didn't read it yet) and see what they recommend. I proposed a suggestion, so see what they think/advise and go with that.

I haven't used ClayMagic but trust people who have; I'd go with their finer bar. The Sonus green is probably a bit too mild for this initial claying of your vehicle.

I'd go with Collinite for the wax. You could try getting Pakshack to just add it to your order. The 476S paste wax is incredibly durable, the 845 Insulator wax is a bit easier to use and lasts pretty long (my niece-in-law uses it and likes it).

Just called PakShak and Ranney suggested the 845 so I went with that. :-)

Lynn at Autopia said they haven't had any problems with the Sonus gray clay and suggested I just not be too aggressive and use plenty of lube - so I'm going with that as well.

I let you know how things turn out!

lvalesko- OK.

If you get some marring from the Sonus gray (clay a small area, wipe it off and inspect), see if the 1Z Paint Polish will fix it (not unlikely, but it might take more than one application).

If you're pooped after doing the washing, claying, and polishing, you can let the waxing go until after the next wash. The wax that the 1Z Paint Polish leaves behind will last a while all by itself.

You might need to stir the 845 up (long-bladed screwdriver perhaps) before you try shaking it. It'll be thick like a gel initially, but if/when you shake it up enough it'll get so thin you won't believe it, almost like water! There's often a "plug" of semi-solidified wax in the neck of the bottle, shove that down into the rest of it and *then* stir/shake.

Ranney's and Lynn are nice people, you picked two winners to do business with :xyxthumbs

Hope all goes well, I expect that it will.
