Topping Glazes with Sealents- bonding issues

On the Meguiars site, many are happy with #80 + NXT. I always thought #80 was a great swirlremover (they call it a cleaner/polish), but should be topped with some kind of sealant like NXT.

#80 isnt really a true glaze as it polishes as well (4 on the abbrassive scale IIRC). The light cleaners in NXT should remove the oils #80 leaves on the surface and allow it to bond.

A sealant such as Klasse SG or Auotoglym Extra gloss would not be able to be use over #80.

SO.. in theory i could use say #3 over say my AIO/UPP combo and be good to go?

Or would #3 being a "machine" glaze remove the UPP or whatever sealent being used?

Sealants, especially Teflon, are absorbed into the paint finish, and waxes/polishes are on top the paint. You can seal a car and then maintain it with wax without interfearing with it's performance. The opposite is also true as well.

That is the perfect combo of looks and durability, but I never could get an answer from anyone as to if a glaze will affect the sealant underneath. I'm tempted to just buy a glaze and give it a go, and see how long it all lasts, since no one seems to know for sure.

In theory, this would be awesome. You've got ultra-durable sealant on the bottom, which will stand there to protect the paint if all else fails (and make it shiny), then a glaze to deepen and wet the paint, and a high-quality carnuba on top to lock the glaze in and provide a bit more depth and warmth.

I am no glaze expert but I was under the impression that most glazes have some cleaning properties as well, so I wonder if this would affect the sealant, especially since the glaze would most often be applied by machine?

Some glazes do have cleaning ability, some don't. For instance, VM would probably take off the sealant, but Mothers Sealer and Glaze wouldn't.

FYI... this past weekend I topped WG Glaze with WG Sealant. Looks very nice, super slick, and beading water very nicely.

Sounds good! Please update us with durability too!

Machboy--I haven't used either, but I *think* #7 has no cleaners. Why not shoot an email to Meg's about them?
