Tonneau cover...What would you do???

New Normal
After waiting over two months for the tonneau cover to be restored by the vendor I stopped by the detail and accessory shop that I had purchased the cover from unexpectedly yesterday. Made an inquiry about the desposition of the tonneau cover. Was informed that it had come in the other day. They had not had time to give me a call so they were glad to see me stop by the shop. I guess it saved them all that work that is entailed to call a customer.

Was glad that I stopped by also because, I knew that by getting to them before they called me, I could save my self some work by asking them to not clean the tonneau cover at all. Just have it ready to be installed at the agreed upon time. That I would be happy to do all the cleaning that would be necessary after the installation of the cover. I saw the attendant/salesman write something that I had hoped was a work order.

Arrived on time. Made small talk with the installer and mentioned how it was nice that they would not be cleaning the tonneau cover. He said, “Oh no, we automatically clean all our covers before and after the installation. Everything here leaves clean”.

This is the result of their cleaning practices.

Guess what I am doing tomorrow...? Any one interested in making a suggestion as to how I should attack this paint to correct the holgrams.

Pictures do not do justice to these holograms they really stand out. I know that I have never instilled anything of this nature ever before.

Are you serious!!?? They didnt see those?

I would attack with some IP and then FPII. Top with your favorite LSP.

sorry to see the looks of that thing.

Greg beleive it thats how installers/detailers send things out, looks like my car after i paid the detail shop to buff out the paint.halograms through out.

CW if they think that is top is clean, then they should have been bowing before you after looking at your truck.
Sorry to see that had to happen to you.

To be truthful I do get a lot of comments on the truck. But in the half dozen times that I have been at this accessory shop they have never mentioned anything about the look of truck.

OK, I can see how an untrained eye can't really identify paint defects, but damn! It doesn't get any more blatant than that. Sorry man. I bet you were teed off.

Nevertheless, it'll look great once you're done with it!

i would ask for some cash back or a trip to a detail shop for repair . once you accept it its your problem ..

I feel your pain. my freind has one of those. BUT. his had to be ajusted because the color didn't match.. I guess they shot it with tinted clear because my pads turned green. If you have the rotary use it if not start with 2.5

stopped by my work today, and looked at it in person. Horrible in person. They even left wax/polish residue in the cracks...even got it on the rubber....not sure if it stained though.......

Hey Kirk:
Do the world a favor. Borrow the biggest earthmover you can find locally and bury that shop.
How can anyone even call themselves a detail shop and send something like that out the door?

Charles, the spirit is willing but my Union Brothers would have my pension for sure if I scabbed on them in this right to work state.

Poorboys Pro Polish applied by hand with a clean soft cotton towel, and then use whatever you want on top of that.

Sorry that happened to you, their work sucked.

I see in the other thread you got it nice.
What's a Tonneau Cover?

It is a hard cover for the box of the truck. It is mounted on top of the truck box with a frame that pivots at the front of the box where there are hinges and opens with a handle at the rear of the box above the tailgate. It has cylinders on each side to aide in holding up the cover. Essentially making it a trunk. Covered storage instead of a open truck box.

What's a Tonneau Cover?

A tonneau cover sits over the top of a bed on a truck. It keeps things dry, locked up, etc. In this case, it's fiberglass, but they come in different materials. You can get a hard cover or a soft cover.

It does look nice in the other thread. You did a very good job with it. :)
