This brought back a lot of painful memories of the last RR I did in Malibu a while back!

The owner has had the neighborhood "possie" wash this quite a few times I believe. It took me some time to find a combo on this. I started with Optim Compound and an Orange pad, which did a fairly good job, but I wanted to play with some products and pad combos this time and Im happy I did. Albeit 7 hrs later, about a 1/2 dozens various combos, I settled with the 1Z twins, Paint Polish and Metallic Polish. This was the first real thorough go around and test I have had with 1Z. All I can say is wow, is this stuff heavily underrated. I also used UPP to seal, FS Ult Tire Gel on trim, One Grand EVR for tires, FS White Lightning for wheels, Charliesoap for interior cleaning.

Some before and afters:

Do you have any pictures of the inside after?

NO! I screwed up! I forgot the interior pics as well as the "after" wheels pic! I dont normally spend 7 hrs detailing 1 car, but those RR's are amazing. Theres nothing "domestic" about them, and they are very tight quartered. Vacuuming the front floor area is real tight, even with the seats all the way back, and the doors feel like they only open about 45 degrees (Or im putting on some serious weight). I did spend quite a bit of time cleaning up after the two Golden Labs they have. The fender trim was a real mess. The top 1/2 was real oxidized, so there was another time consumer, but the FS Ult Tire Gel looks fantastic, and lasts a reasonable amount of time. I told him it really needs to be dyed (Maybe next time)

As for the 1Z speed, that PC doesnt go fast enough for me.......(5 to spread, then two cross passes on 6)

What color can 1z products did you use-yellow and greed? What is the MP one for-I do not see it listed on the 1z usa web site and was wondering what the metallic polish was made for.

74, the Metallic is in a red can I believe. (I was using a sample) Its pink when ya pour it. Use it for light swirl removal. And the Paint Polish comes in a green can. Its greenish/beige, and used for light/medium swirls. I cant wait to use it again!

Patrick,

Did you try any wool to speed up the correction.

7 hours with a RR is about 6 hours and 50 minuets to long. I really hate detailing these things.

The fender flair problem is very common with this model

No Ron, not a chance. I had my work cut out for me just with all the interior componants of a RR. Not to mention the two Labs they own. The flares were terrible. They should be recoated. The owner mentioned having to have them replaced evey few years. I told him I could dye them, but I ended up not having it with me..they would have needed at least two coats for sure.....

Patrick, I thought they went from the most agressive to the least agressive like this; yellow, green, then red. I thought the red MP also had wax. I may be looking at an old chart though. Can't wait until you start carrying since I want to give this product line a try.

74, after some trials and tribulations with Optimum and 1Z, I knew exactly what I needed. Your correct in the 1Z order of abrasiveness, Yellow Paint Cleaner, Green Paint Polish, Red Metallic Polish. However, with some experience, one can begin to understand product characteristics when you have used them a few times. I know exactly what Opt Compound can and cant do. I was close in my original evaluation that Opt Com would have accomplished what I was after. And it was real close. It just lacked a little additional bite. I could have jumped to a Yellow pad, but I dont like using the yellow pad when I can use Orange with a similiar product. The Orange conforms a lot better, and its just an easier pad (IMO) to use.

So I went with the next closest product in my arsenal, which was the Paint Polish. On the dark surface, I assumed I may get some marring, which I did, and it was very minimal, so I elected to stay with 1Z, and used the Metallic Polish. All worked out according to plan. Me and the owner were very happy the way the surface turned out. His wife said it hadnt looked that good since they purchased it 4 yrs ago. And if they're happy, im happy (most of the time).

Ya ever get a detail where you try everything you know, and every product you have, but you just cant get it right?

P.S.; I may have had the 1Z twins backwards in my earlier post, like I said, I just have the 6oz sample size bottles, and the labels are hard to read with product smears on them!
