Hey all... the subject is my 1991 Ford Bronco. It has original paint and has only 20k orig miles. I did a test area of wet sanding and it made a huge difference. My question is this.... has anyone started a wetsanding project only to wish they hadn't when they were half done? I dont want one part of the truck different than the rest, however the paint is kinda shot and could really use it. Should I get a paint thickness gauge for safety??

Thanks for any stories or opinions..

If I could ask...Why did you decide to wetsand the finish? Orange peel?

If I recall..these Bronco's are single stage paint...I would just let the orange peel be and stay on the safe side.

the reason I want to wet sand is because of the poc marks (tiny pin holes) in the paint. Not quite sure what caused them, but you can see in the before pic that the reflections in the paint are not clear.

I used Unigrit 2000 and then some Mother's Power Gloss via rotory to shine it up.

I usually stray customers away from wetsanding since it removes so much of the clear/paint. The perfect candidates, in my opinion, for wetsanding are those that see little driving (ie: show cars or garage queens). If you don't plan on using this vehicle a lot, then I would say it is a very good candidate.

Furthermore, your pictures show a very good process. I don't see any left over sanding marks or sanding tracers.

Just as an FYI, in case you are not the original owner, many of teh 89-92 Broncos had paint issues from the factroy and many were repainted. My dad had an 89 that got a complete repaint (Stripped to bare metal and repainted) and a 92 which also got a repaint.

Just something to consider that it may not be factory paint.
