I'll add this. The look that *any* dressing takes on will be dependent on the tire that it's applied to. In most cases you can make a Michelin tire shine with spit. Other brands you can't make shine with anything. The tire in that picture is new and was very clean prior to application and that's going to play into it as well. What works and looks good in one case will look so so in another.

whats you app method?

I've used Meguiar's high gloss Endurance gel (grape) and recently switched to the standard gloss. THe petroleum (silicone?) in the high gloss is too messy, ruins applicators and browns the tires after too much use. I'm sticking to water based products from now on. Not as shiny or long lasting, but I'm over the bling phase.

And I agree that a properly cleaned tire makes a big difference in the overall look of the product.

On a car that is maintained by an autopian, after washing, you can get away with just #40 spayed on liberally, wiped around with an old MF, let dry, buff and never need to use a dedicated tire cleaner again unless you drive through mud. This is because #40 cleans and leaves a matte finish protectant behind, like tire AIO.

On a non-autopian car (what I do to customer's cars) I would suggest megs safe degreaser cut around 1:6. This I spray on the tires, in the fenderwells, on bugs/tar etc, works great and it really is safe on every surface I have tested it on.

I suggest spraying it on with a foaming 1-2 gallon sprayer, the foam helps a lot with the tires and fenderwells.

As far as protection/ dressing goes (after cleaning of course) I really like CG natural shine as it is very low gloss and natural looking (not to mention, it's cheap).

But apparently, I also like megs hyperdressing cut 2.5:1 as Spoiledman has shown me with that very attractive and low gloss tire ;)

I used Meguiar's Hot Shine Gel on my truck. No slinging ever. Really need's to be applied correctly though. I use the eagle one tire swipes.
