Hi guys.. First off i think this site is awesome. It is so nice to be able to talk to people who love to detail like me. I am jus totally obsessed with detailing. Ha. Anyway i have BFGoodrich tires and they are not slick feeling like most tires they are kind of rough feeling. Anyway they do not shine up with the tire shine like i would like. Don't get me wrong they look good but i want them to be glossy. Any suggestions on making these tires shine???

:welcome to Autopia

First tell us what you've been using on your tires and how you clean them now.

Have the BFG's always been rough feeling or did this happen over time?

As you read posts you'll find most of us use water-based protectants and stay away from tire shine products that can damage both tires and paint.

I always clean my tires every time I wash my truck. I use an alkaline based cleaner but something like Eagle One A2Z wheel and tire cleaner would work fine.

Well thanks for the welcome bretfaz! These tires have always been rough. I have used Black Magic Tire Shine, Meguiars Hot Shine, and Eagle One Tire Wet. I too clean my tires every time i wash my truck and i do use Eagle One A2Z......

Yes as a matter of fact i have heard Endurance is good. I think i might go out tomorrow and buy some even though it is too cold and too wet to wash.

Don't bother putting the Endurance on if it's expected to rain within the next 24hrs - if you do, I always find it washes straight off.

You get better results if you can give it time to 'cure' a bit. The first time I used it, I built up a few layers of it during the coarse of a week or so. I found that after that, the tires held their black sheen that much better.

vprdak,

Do not under-estimate the effectiveness of making sure the tires are thoroughly clean before applying a tire dressing.

I always use a detergent type soap and a hard bristle nylon scrub brush in order to thoroughly clean the tires. Wesley's Bleach White also works very well, when necessary, especially on black sidewall tires.

Although it might not always be the best look for a dealer who has a solvent based tire shine, it will be much glossier and last longer, I use Showcar Ultra Blue, it is $6.95 gallon water repellent.

While doing research for our forthcoming Tire & Wheel Care Guide, I spoke with tire engineers from Michelin, Goodyear, Bridgestone and the US DOT. Learned a lot of things...

Everyone that I spoke to about dressings said that dressings are not recommended for tires, but the "least harmful" dressings are water-based. They all suggested that solvent-based dressings should be avoided if possible, because the solvents can have an adverse effect on the tire compounds.

The Michelin engineer said that they will not honor a tire warranty if it's been discovered that a solvent-based dressing was ever used on the tire.

Just my $0.02; sorry for switching this threads gears a little.

Has anyone out there tried Turtle Wax Tire Wax? If so how does this compare to Turtle Wax Tire Gel. I searched for Tire Wax and did not come up with very much info.... I want something with very high gloss that does not attract much dirt.
