Tip for wiping down wheels

I have 17" wheels with wide spokes. I love how I can get my whole hand all the way through them to wipe the insides :D

A way to make wiping them down easier,if you don't want to wash them every single day just came to me.

FWIW, I thought about wearing a pair of cotton gardening gloves to wipe down the wheels (insides only). You could spray the gloves or wheels with a qd or apc if you wish. This idea worked well for a fairly clean set of wheels. You could also substitute with those mf gloves. Just throw in the wash or wash by hand when done and you're set to go again.

I'm going to be on the look out for those 99 cent gloves and see how they fair.

Thought this would be something helpful to share.

Yep have that in mind too, but my mitt hasn't gotten too raggedy yet. I could pick up some more cotton ones just for this purpose too. With the gloves and I can get in in spots close to the rotor and caliper I couldn't quite reach with the mitt.

I'll probably wind up having another full bin filled with gloves and mitts just to wipe the wheels with :D

Doh... I already started using the cheap .99 cent gloves and they work well... I get at least a weeks, daily, use out of one pair.. then into the soaker bin, dawn-oxywash, until wash day.. great idea for sure..

Hey BW,

I used to use socks for years, actually used inside out athletic socks slipped on a long ac unit brush to get at the inside of Maxima wheels. For my current wheels, socks are good but found the gloves even better :up

Wow, thanks Bill! :bow

I just had an epiphany. :idea When you said "Maxima wheels" I just realized that I could probably try those $1 gloves not for wiping down, but for washing my darned 3rd Gen "turbine" style wheels.

Right now I use 1" foam paintbrushes (or just wheel cleaner), but it's not really an optimal solution because they're pretty fragile and aren't as fast to use as I'd like. Cotton gloves might be the way to go when QEW season hits. :D

Then later next spring I'll use them for those new wheels I said I'd get this year.... :o

4DSC,

Sounds good, I used to use that long ac unit brush with the sock to get at the insides of the whels all the time, did a pretty good job

I've used an "E-Z Detail Brush" from properautocare.com with success, it's flexible and will get behind the wheel for calipers etc.

Hope this helps.
