Tint selection question

Can someone tell me what brand of window tint is considered high end? What are the features that make this tint exclusive?

I plan on tinting one of my cars very lighly 70% or so. I just want to be sure to buy "the best"

3M or Llumar make high quality tint that is backed by a lifetime warranty. You can't go wrong with either of these films!

BTW, 70% is extremely light, nearly unnoticeable. Just for reference, the windows on my Scion tC come stock with 70%. However, there is a noticeable difference in full-on sun between having the window open and closing it - just not "enough" for me... I'll be getting 35% Llumar soon.

I do understand, though, since you NY folks are victim to very stupid tint laws :bat

Huber Optik is probably one of the best tints out there..

Beware though:

Its not the brand that matters its the line (exclude Huber) ..

3M makes some poor stuff so does LLUMAR but they have also really good stuff to!

I have 35% llumar and I love it on my wagon.. Although wish i went darker for the backs! 35% gives enough so you can see out night and day and its not too dark from the outside.. I like to call it Classy:2thumbs:

Hence the 70% over my factory. I am not looking for the import look, I just want them a little darker. I'm not looking for the black window effect, just a sunglasses look.

I've had an E500 with 20%, LS400 with 50%, Cayenne S with 50%, and no problems from any cops. (can you tell from those model names when I moved to NYC and had no car?) I had one tell me the windows of my LS400 were dark at a gas station one night, I agreed with him and he went on his way. They arent really tough with it.

But I have seen an 88 Civic with 20% tint, fart can exhaust, body parts in 6 different colors, and bald tires getting 10 tickets for it. If I didnt see it happen, I'd have to with hold my property tax payment and stop donating to the local PD!!!

Huber Optik - that is the ceramic tint correct?

So you gents are saying that 50% or lower is the way to go? I HATE not being able to see out of the back window on the highyway at night.

What should I expect to pay for this?

The last time I got my windows tinted I paid $400 and some change from Sun Shield in New Rochelle, lets say 1994. The Cayenne was done at the dealer. They were the "Ferrari" of window tinting whne I was younger. I remember them because the tinted windows in our house.

Yeah huber optik is about 400 ask on that forum just posted where to get it done... There rather ummm ^&*%$ or autopian there! hahah Thats a good thing...!

Got it thanks.

So I guess should expect to pay $400-500 to get the car done with this tint? I just dont want to walk in to a shop and have some dope ask me for $900 when I can get him to do it for $450.

I can't really vouch for prices in NY, but when I got my car tinted with 35% in the front and 15% in the back this summer, it ran me just over $180. I believe the brand that was used was Llumar. If that helps you any.

Not sure what kind of car you have jsatek but it should only be about 300 maybe 400. I got my wagon done all windows with llumar stuff dont know which kinda as I was not as smart back then (last year) for 300.. 35% is like wearing minimal sunglasses.. I would say if you see a car driving around and you can see the person inside pretty well thats 35%.... SUV glass in the backs are about 20%-15% generally.. So think lighter than that an you got it.

wow $400? In some places that'll get you a clear bra!

Tint should definitiely not be running over $200 at all

I'm being quoted anywhere from $110-$180 for Llumar 35%, lifetime warranty of course.

Also, I believe you can go safely all the way to 35% without comprimising your night vision significantly. In fact, even the 20's should be doable, but I personally wouldn't. It's when you get to super dark tints like 5% that it becomes dangerous.

But regardless, the darker you go the more chance there is that you get pulled over by one of your finest (rather, get a ticket for an "unrelated" stop).

A good tint shop should be able to provide you with samples, so you can see how dark it'll be, from what I understand.

It actually mostly is around 3-400 in the northeast because there are not as many suppliers and the demand is low.. Raising prices.. compared to cali..fl.arizona etc lots of tinters(quality ones) and lots of demand...

Northeast there are lots of purple/bubbling/peeling tints around! Quality is paid for at the higher price unfortunately.. Maybe able to find something cheaper but it will be harder

I have found 3M Colorstable tint to be excellent on my car. I have 20%, but it comes in very light shades as well. 3M is the world leader in adhesion technology, and as such, I have never had a single problem with their tint peeling, bubbling, or fading. Plus, it is warranted for life against doing any of those things. I highly recommend 3M.

3M does have lower quality dyed tints though, and I would stay away from those, if possible. They are still good, just not anywhere near as good as their best stuff.

I found a shop that uses 3M (various models) and Huber Optik. He also has a "bullet proof" tint. For my car he quoted $350.00 for either brand and $600.00 for the bullet proof. You got to love the Bronx...

I'm going for a product demo today at 3pm, Ill let you know what I see. He cant take me until December 27th, his shop is booked.

Just wanted to give an opinion on how dark is too dark at night. I have 20% on my tahoe so that the fronts match the back and most of the time it is fine. I live in the city and in places where there is abient light (street lights, stores) I have no problem seeing out. Maybe I couldn't easily recognize a persons face who is far away but you have no problem seeing that they are there. The only time I can't really see out is when I am out in the country on backroads and there is no light, but you still see headlights obviously if there are cars around so it has never really been a problem. Oh and I think getting the two front windows done on my car 5 years ago cost me $75. I didn't even ask what type of tint it was but no problems so far.

By far, the best tint I have come across is Huper Optik. If you want agreat guy to deal with and the best price for Hupers, go see JamesTint in Middletown NY. It should only take you an hour maybe less to get there. I go all the way up there from LI! Takes me about 1.5hrs with slight traffic. I can probably do it in less.

Why squint when you can tint? James Window Tint

Tell james that Diesel from G35Driver sent ya and he will give you a great price. Shoot me a PM and I will give you a rough estimate of what he will probably charge. It is way less than $400! I took my mom's 300C and my sisters Impreza up to him for Hupers. They both got 30% and love it. My mom doesn't like it too dark either.

The hupers give off a very classy look that looks almost factory. The tint looks very light on on the car but at the same time provides just enough privacy without drawing attention from the PO PO. Additionally, it blocks heat like no other tint I have ever used!

I went to the "world famous" tint place in the Boogie Down BX yesterday. I will not be using this store. Out of fear of losing my life, I wont mention the name of thsi shop. Ill just say that Will Castro has nothing on this mo-fo.

I wish I had a camera with me, every drug dealer in lower NY must go here for radios and car modifications. The tint demo the guy gave me was great. He was very unprofessional though, really turned me off towards him. Used language and tint usage scenarios I couldnt stomach.

He let me walk out the door at $400.00 for Huper Optic tint at 50% grade. Looks like I may take the ride to Middletown to see Diesel1's boy.

Diesel1 - Dont I owe you food at All American Burger for a carck at the Cyclo?

:beware

what an idiot!

So what kind of line do you think shops offer when they say they offer Llumar tint? Are we safe in just buying Llumar with a lifetime warranty? I honestly wasn't even aware that there were so many different lines with just one brand!
