Timeless Automotive Designs

I would add the Mustang to that list, more than 40 years and still going strong...

Agreed.....EXCEPT for the Mustang II. As far as American cars, I think not only the first gen F cars, but the 'Cuda definitely belongs on that list. I think the 4th gen Trans Am WS6 belongs on there too. That hood is just NASTY!! As far as exotics, I would definitely put the F355 on the list. It looks hot in hard top or the spyder. Last but not least, maybe I'm biased, but...94-96 Impala SS. :D I still get thumbs up and offers to buy my SS even though cosmetically, it has seen WAY better days.

Totally agree!

I also agree with the Lamborghini Miura and the Ferrari Daytona Spider and, of course, Porsche 911 (not a fan of the 996 model though) and Cayman S. I do like the Porsche 944 too.

How about the Ferrari Dino 246 and Maranello 360 - gorgeous!

'66 Austin Healy 3000, 1st generation RX-7.

*earliest 4.2L Jaguar E-Type (esp. drop head)

*1956-57 Continental Mark II

*1960 Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California

*1962 Ferrari 250 GT Berlinetta Lusso

*1984/85 Ferrari Testarossa

*Any Shelby Cobra (esp. small block)

*1968-70 Dodge Charger

*All Chevy Corvette Stingrays

* (agree with this) "the 1955 and 1957 Chevrolets"

* (and this) "the Ferrari Dino 246 (and) '66 Austin Healy 3000"

*Aston Martin DB5/6 and DB7 and DB9

*Lamborghini Miura

*Last generation Mazda RX-7

And many others. . .

The BMW Z8 still takes my breath away in a way usually reserved only for things from Maranello. This car was so gorgeous they needed to bring in the likes of Chris Bangle to restore entropy to the universe.

Good one - a gorgeous car!

Would something bad happen if you used Z8 on the Z8? :D

Would it be Z-8 squared?

Driving around in the area I just moved to, I have noticed a LOT of gorgeous vehicles. Some, even though they've been around for a few years, I still find their designs timeless.

Here are my choices for this topic:

What are yours?

Well I admit to being very biased but here is my entry to the list.

I know a lot of people don't love the looks of this car, but the Lotus Esprit is hands down my favorite car of all time.

Obviously I have a soft spot for them, but for a rather regular modern sedan, the original Aurora was quite stylish. Not in the vein of a 911 or Corvette or something, but if you look at the sedan landscape in 1994, the Aurora really stands out. Except for the smallish wheels and largish sidewall, to me they still look great and modern.

I'd second 2.5 RS about the Esprit, 35 years later and Guigario's original design still looks fresh (I realize it isn't exactly his original design anymore...).

I don't know if I'd consider the Aurora timeless though.

Ehh, it still looks good 12 years later. Put some 17-18" rims on it and it could be a new car. There's an MR2 and a 2007 Mustang on the thread, so I figured "timeless" was flexible. ;)

Fair comments! Different topic, but I realized I had forgotten one important design: the Ford GT40! :doh

If the production of the Ford GT some 40 years later doesn't say "timeless design", I don't know what does! Especially as it was gorgeous then, and is even more so now :wow: !!
