Time to try another coating.....

RaskyR1- On the darkening, sometimes I just don't like that change.  When BF's AFPP darkened the S8 it no longer looked like the "shade of silver" that I want to see when I look at my silver Audis.  On some dark color it'd probably be great, but it's not the effect I want on the paint colors I work with.  If a (presumably harder to remove) coating darkened one of my vehicles, I'd be very displeased, so I really appreciate when people discuss that aspect.

On the test panels I've done, pretty much all LSP's seem to have some varied level of darkening. I don't think most would notice unless it's dark paint with a hard line.
 
RaskyR1- It was especially easy for me to see the darkening that I mentioned- my wife and I have identical silver Audis, usually parked side-by-side :D 


 


FWIW, the FK1000P that I'm always raving about does *not* darken and neither does 4-Star UPP.  The UPP sorta surprised me as I hadn't expected it to differ much from the BF.

Both versions CQUK and Reload were the 2014 version.   With CQUK I did half a door, applied product, then waited 15-20 seconds, and then started wiping with the recommended suede towel.  I followed Corey's HowTo and it appeared similar to that.  I know that if you leave it too long it becomes grabby.  I didn't really have that problem (but I know what everyone is referring to here).


 


I've read a few posts about people having problems with Reload 2014 version.  They made it stronger and has a tendency to leave behind an oily surface.  More noticeable on darker colors, but since I had trouble seeing CQUK on white I really started inspecting the paint and just couldn't leave the oily residue from Reload on the paint.


 


I read a post from Avi @ Carpro that they made Reload 2014 too strong and he recommended diluting 1:1.  He also stated that they will correct the formula in the future.  Not sure if that means Reload 2015 or just a silent change.   I think it is more than that though.  I've also read that someone diluted 1:1 and it made no difference.
 
I just used Gloss-Coat for the first time on Friday.  As critical as I've been about the whole Opti-Coat Pro decision, I have to say I love Gloss-Coat already.  This stuff is RIDICULOUSLY EASY to apply.  While I've not used other coatings out there, this has to be one, if not the easiest coating to apply.  On top of that, it was like wiping on slickness.  Unlike Opti-Coat Pro/2.0, this stuff is super slick during & after application.  


 


Overall, I'm completely sold on the application on Gloss-Coat.  Durability is yet to be seen, but I trust that Dr. G has created another top-notch product.  If only their marketing & business decisions were as good as their products.

I don't know that I'm the best person to describe the looks.  I've never been one to be able to tell a lot between the looks of one product vs another.  That said, I thought it had incredible shine/gloss once it was done.  The owner was extremely pleased, which is what I care about the most.  :)
 
I would ask Bryan @Peachstate  Post #15 what he thinks about the O-GC looks.

Cars that sit out 24/7 will need washed w carpro reset shampoo, no matter the coating, every 6-12 months. My LEAF sits out all the time and 40 hours of that is at the airport. I put OCP on it in January of this year. I did a wash w Meg's hyper wash and ironX about 5 months ago. A few days ago I did a wash w reset and it made the OCP look like it was applied last month.
 
I put CQUK on a tinted clear coat...it came out darkened and looking like single stage paint. I hated the product for that reason alone and wasted a day polishing it off. Beware of the darkening effect. Its real and in some cases...not a positive thing.
