I'm going to be buying my first buffer (I've detailed by hand prior to this) because I feel it can save me alot of time and energy. I wanted something relatively reliable yet somewhat inexpensive... Where would you recommend I look?

Check your local lowes for the Porter Cable 7336 (PC)

PC was sold to B&D and recently I picked up a new 7336 that died in a week. My replacement is sounding weird. The first I purchased years ago lested a long time. There maybe issues with the 7336. m2c

Umm, yeah. Big +1 on that. These are good professional machines, but they don't fall into the "inexpensive" category. Reports of problems with the PC are still fairly uncommon, I'd recommend starting off with that. Besides, a beginner shouldn't jump into the deep end with a rotary right off the bat, too much risk of burning the paint for a straight novice.
