This weekend's work

Hello everybody!



As is the case with most of you, I have a love affair with my car. I have a black 2001 Mustang GT. It's not garaged and I give it a bath 2 - 3 times a week. I wish I had found this sight sooner.



I have a lot of swirls but they're not too too bad and some surface scratches that I'm hoping to take care of this weekend. I've been to my local pep-boys, autozone, discount auto parts, and walmart. I've purchased Megauir's Scratch-X, #7 and #26. I also am going to purchase a Mother's clay bar.



I live in Florida and it's going to be damn near 90 degrees saturday. I plan on getting up fairly early to get started but the sun heats up quick and is brutal on the black car.



I borrowed a canopy from a friend to create shade for the day. Is it going to be enough for me to get done what I need to get done? Here are my plans:



1. Washing with Dawn and rinsing

2. claybar

3. rinse and dry

4. Scratch-X

5. #7

6. #26



Am I missing anything?



Also, I have a 6" compact buffer made by Road Xpedition that I got for Christmas. I've never used it or any other buffer for that matter. Is it something that I should try with any of these products? If so, what bonnets should I use with it?



I've been addicted to making my car clean for quite awhile now and am looking forward to making it *sparkle* like some of the amazing cars I've seen on the sight.

That little buffer will make the job a bit easier. You might want to pick up a few extra bonnets as they get used up quickly.



ScratchX is fine for scratches, do you have them? If all you have is swirls then a swirl mark remover is the ticket. Meguiar's #9 SMR is a good one so maybe take back the ScratchX and exchange it for the SMR.



Your steps are fine. I'm sure the canopy will help a lot. Hopefully you have products and tools for all the other things - wheels, tires, trim, interior, glass, seats, etc, etc, etc.

Hey I've got a quickie... is it safe to PC using Meg #9 in direct sunlight? I've got no garage and have to detail on my LAWN in direct sunlight (I can do it under trees if I drive halfway onto my lawn. Doing the Z is a pain in the behind in the middle of the lawn under trees let me tell you).

good plan but replace the dawn wash with carwash.no need for that the smr or Scratch-X will get the surfes clean.



nice car you have, i like those 2001 bullit style wheel. and do u have the same poblem i have with the hoodscoop. it's PITA to dry, hold alot of water under it.

no1000, YES! Usually what I end up doing is doing a quicky dry and the driving the car up the street and back. That usually gets all of the water out of the scoop, trunk/under the tail lights, and out of the front honeycomb grille. Then I dry the whole car again.
 
Well, it's all done. It was an interesting day. I had never clayed before and it was definitely an interesting experience! I kept reading how you'd feel or hear the clay working and I thought to myself "How?". HA! It was very, very cool. :)



After applying and removing the scratchx, polish, and wax my arms were TIRED. Not to mention that it got up to 90 degrees here yesterday. I was mostly in the shade but it still wasn't pleasant!



Anyway, here is the result of my work. It's not prize winning but it is much better and it feels amazing. :)
