Just One More Coat
Last night while watching TV in our front room, I like to have the front door open...the wife wanted to watch her soaps so she was in another room....my son was in bed at this point....

The back of the couch parallels the door is, so as you walk in, you are walking on the back side of the couch.. If anyone / anything comes in you can't really see it....All of a sudden I could sense / hear something in the room...I looked over where my wife would be walking in, nothing...looked up at the top of the stair case...nope not my son....OK back to the TV...then I heard a clinking sound....I turned around and there was a raccoon trying to get at a candy dish my wife had set out on a entry table:eek::eek::eek:

You could have won a Pulitzer prize with a pic of what I looked like:wow:

I stood up with a large pillow in my hand, lets face it I don't stock any weapons in my front room...waving the pillow in the area and yelling...my wife comes running thinking that I am getting mugged:D

The raccoon sees her and jumps up on top of the table grabbed a bunch of candy and ran out the door:rofl

My heart was beating so fast, I felt like I was having the big one:yikes:

I'll be shopping for a screen door this weekend and until then I will just have the window open for now on..

Here is a pic of the room, its from when we moved in, last year

Great story...:D:D

I agree time for a screen. You lucked out (I guess) that it was a racoon, they know what they want and then they leave. Alot of animals could get startled and become agressive.

I would have probably jumped if I saw that there and didn't realize it had come in.

Also knowing how racoons are, and the fact they know there is food there...it will be back...I wouldn't be suprised one day your there and its scratching at the screen looking for a handout. Not sure how high up your window is...but they will find a way.

I'm guessing that you've never met a Midwest raccoon. Those things are vicious and are not to be messed with.

I'm glad that you only got a scare from your late night visitor. I'm sure it was a sight to see.

Lets just hope that he doesn't learn how to ring the door bell:)

I was surprised to see one in the neighbor hood at all...have seen a few possums but not coons, we are pretty residential...I do agree he might be back...The windows are not that high up but I will only keep in open a bit...and its right next to where I sit....pic was attached

That's too funny.

So the important question... What type of candy do raccoons prefer? lol

Be careful, raccoons are not to be messed with. They are a very dirty animal too, they carry diseases. "Of the 6,844 documented rabies cases reported in the United States in 2004, 37.5% were in raccoons"

:rofl M&Ms peanut and regular:rofl

I lived in the Sierra Nevada's for some time, I understand what Raccoon can do, that's why I started yelling and waving the pillow and moving towards the area where the only way to run was out the door...Once he saw that wife...I think that he must have figured he was out numbered:dnaughty

Had he charged me I had no plan at that point, just glad he gave up so easy

I'm still laughing. I just have this picture in my head of the raccoon sitting behind you eating M&M's and watching TV. Good thing you sensed him before he wandered into the rest of the house.

Totally agree..the kitchen was his next step....had he got in there I would have had no idea how to get him out, as he would have been cornered....best / worse part is that was the room the wife was in

Go ahead and sit the candy dish on the stoop! They will be ready for trick or treating!!! Funny experience! :funny: Really glad the racoon did not get further in the house! Talk about a mess!!! I know how your heart felt! I looked our our back door last spring only to see a young bear in our yard!! I took a photo and sent it to all my family so they did not think I'd really lost it! Just about the time I snapped the picture it stood up to sniff out the area! Great shot! Have not seen him ever again.... Then again, It was not eating snickers out of my candy jar...:notme:

Just picking... :D You know... racoon not breaking, just entering into your home...I just got a kick out of it and am playing w/ya! I appreciate all the info you provide to myself and others here on the forums.... You've really helped me out a lot reading your recomendations/opinions on the forum...(sucked up enough for forgiveness yet?!?!):bow No harm intended...
