I don't know how it is in other states, but in Florida, there are so many hacks calling themselves detailers it is just horrible. Thats the only negative thing ill say. Here we go.



I suppose I should thank the hack, I got a long term couple of cars for this husband and wife to take care of now.

It's actually much worse down here in S.E. FL. People that don't even speak english are detailing cars for a living. They have no concept of detailing and couldn't tell you what the difference is between a wax and a sealant or a polish from a compound. At the end of the day, it's job security for the few who pride themselves to be called Detailers.

Somehow through alchemy I managed to perform the miracle of removing brake dust from previously waxed wheels....

a few dozen of miles away from my city, theres a garage that is putting ads over a few social networks that says they can polish your car PROFESSIONALLY (whatever they ment by that) for under 60$ in 1 hour with the best results anyone can ever achieve.

i lold when the first one came to me for a correction of their "work".

but still... not being able to clean the wheels cause someone waxed them is a pure win... LOL!

Reminds of a couple Acura's I did for one family. They had the same issues with wax being caked on in the seams. I tried my best to get as much out as I could, but some was just in such an awkward spot that I couldn't get to it. It looked like someone really laid on the wax with how thick it was.

there's a mobile detailer by me, i asked him if he did paint correction and he looked at me like i had two heads.

i feel your pain. i am a professional and work 80 hours a week. i also take pride in my cars and want them to look good. I have had SUCH BAD LUCK with so called "detailers" in my area. ive paid for "full interior / exterior " details for 200-300 dollars and was told the car would be clayed polished, paint corrected etc, only to get a swirled car back with rims that arent even fully cleaned with water spots on it.



i got so sick of this ****, that i bought a flex, my own polishes, took time off work and polished my own car. yes im a newb but with reading this forum and based on my results (thread posted: ML63 badly swirled, in this section) i think its light years better then these so called "detailers" and "detail shops"



i asked one detailer, hey what kind of light source u use in here to see the defects when you are correct paint, like halogen, led? hes like... "huh? oh, fluorescent. see those fluorescent lights above us as he points the to the ceiling of a very high roofed shop with some tube lights, those lights are the best, better then sunlight and anything else"



if there was this level of common, generalizedi ineptness, incompetence in my line of work id have my pants sued off and my license taken away. ********.



i really dont have time to do this myself but i have no choice. id happily pay someone to do it, but everyone around here seems to be a hack.



i paid 60 bucks for a "wash, clay, wax" of my nissan GTR and i get it back with the rims half assed wash, with brake dust still on them, and missed spots on the back bumper. flipping pathetic. and this shop is a detailing shop and nothing else.

Wouldn't surprise me if these "detailers" are driving through a car wash and then hitting the car with some glaze and calling it a detail.

Well, there is your problem right there! I dont clay without polishing, and I dont polish without claying. Its just the right way to do things! oh yeah, and it starts at 250 and takes about 5+ hours.

Yeah, the "professional detailer" (scare-quotes intentional!) who did my Crown Vic in Jacksonville utterly ruined it cosmetically. So much damage, the kind that can only be fixed with a paintgun and a parts dept., that it'll simply never be the same. Burned *through* some brightwork with a rotary, so you can imagine what the paint was like.



No, I didn't do anything about it. The shop that did the mechanicals had the "detail" done and that's a bridge I'm not gonna burn. I tried to explain my displeasure but they thought the car looked great and that I'm just some kind of nut when it comes to cosmetics.



The shop that did the Tahoe for its seller didn't mess it up nearly as much, but they sure did slather on the interior-slime (coated the engine compartment too), and the glaze was caked on so thickly that it completely filled all sorts of areas (screw/bolt heads, gouges in plastic, seams etc.) with a thick white residue that was so thick I probably could've measured it.
