Just One More Coat
I'm not sure how much national news this is making, but last week a large cargo vessel going under the Bay Bridge clipped one of the towers here in the San Francisco bay, ripping a massive hole in the oil tank and spilling 58,000 gallons of heavy crude oil in the SF bay....its made the news every day here and has started to effect the economy of the area...fishing and crabbers mainly so far....anyway with that comes the clean-up....last night while watching them talk about cleaning up the water fowl which is greatly hurt by this...they showed them spraying down various birds....what are they using to remove this black goop from the birds?

You guessed it...Dawn dish soap

They have these low pressure water pumps that have a steady flow of soapy sudsy water coming out....some of this water fowl are coated black.. I guess the fuel oil that leaked out was the crudest of all grades...making the worst possible fuel to have spill into the water.

It shows you just how much an oil cutter Dawn / dish soap really is, and how bad that it can be on a car over time.

They used Dawn when the Valdez had that disaster in Prince William Sound.:passout:

I think I remember them using dawn with the Exxon Valdeez spill some time back...dawn is a very powerful cleaner. When I have been forced to use it, meaning I had no other car soap, I noticed as soon as I washed a panel, and then hosed it off the water no longer beaded, or sheeted off, it just kind of sat there...like it totally removed any and all protection on my car.

Agree with you Dave, great for Wildlife, horrible for paint.

Crude oil; daily grime. Dawn is the thing to clean up, whether it is a disastrous oil spill or the weekly Sunday car wash.

Hopefully, no one is using Simple Green in the same vicinity.... Ecological disaster. Not to mention it will dry out your window mouldings and eat away your aluminum rims. And a portal to Hades would open allowing demons and Satan himself to come into our dimension and wage war on all the detailers who try to suppress the use of Dawn and Simple Green.... :D

Looks and sees crack to hell opening up, slowly pushes bottle of simple green behind boxes. Whistles and walks away as if nothing happened:D

Yea and to top it all off...the cargo ship was hauling Zaino..:D

i remember seeing commercials for dawn and it was saying it was so gentle and very powerful that they use it to clean off wildlife after a spill

Stop it...you guys are killin' me here :rofl :lmfao

Seriously, it will take some time before the full effect of this catastrophe is known.

You are so right about that...the one thing that I hate about this now, is every news cast is about it...from every conceivable angle....about the lack response for the cleanup...how fast the public was made aware of it.....the pilot's involvement and whether to press charges...are we really safe from another one of these happening...in the 53 years I have been alive this is the first one...and all the editorials on it....I get the magnitude of this..its just the media dragging it out
