This is how all brand new black M3's should arrive to the customer

Making some progress.

Holy crap look at that orange peel! Or is that some sort of anti-chip stuff at the bottom of the doors? Those dealer wash guys are good, getting those scuffs to show up even with all that OP; props to them.

Thats nuts.

As for the "orange peel" I am assuming thats just the anti chip stuff, I know my Subaru has that on the bottom of the door panels.

I don't know, I've seen quite a few MB and BMW cars that have very poor paint texture. Several in the parking lot here at work have OP that is way beyond the levels of what I would consider reasonable, especially for OEM paint. Fairly speaking though I've only seen one BMW that way, while I can count four outside my office right now from Mercedes that are of the same level of 'roughness' as this M3.

That is terrible! I wouldn't have left the dealership if the car looked like that; I'd calmly say 'Next please.'

What is the story behind this and the owner's thoughts, I'm quite curious.

Orange peel is quite typical on recent 3 and 5 series BMWs unfortunately.

There's not much you can do about it other than maybe wetsand the entire car upon delivery.

The first pic does appear to have a bit more OP than is normal on e90/e92s, but that isn't to say they don't have a ton of it. Every e90/92 I've worked on has been OP city.

Yes the paint has a lot of OP. But at least its 95% defect free now, 35 man hours later....Thanks Bret for all your help!!!!

I have to return the car tomorrow am, forecast is for clouds in the morning. :(

Hopefully I can get some pics.

If I took delivery of that car, I think I'd drive it straight to Atlanta to let Bryan go crazy with that AirVantage of his. Haha.

It's amazing on how poor condition the new BMW's are lately.

I did an 08 M3 dark metallic and it was messed up badly and was in worst condition than cars 15 years old. The OP is another whole different story.

A lot of this damage is from the factory too.

Good luck Bryan! Hope the combo works for ya.

Hah. Well, I don't think this is on purpose. BMW's paint process changed with the new 3, so I'd say it's a good bet the OP is as a result of that.

I did an 08 Jerez black M3 and the OP was awful as well but not as bad as that first pic.

Just tell the owner to drive it at night:think2

Make sure you get paid! That is a lot of work you are doing.

I work as a detailer at a local BMW dealer. To make it clear, NO I am NOT a hack like most dealer detailers. I actually take pride in my work and while my work at the dealership may not be autopian level, it is light years better than most. Alot of the problem is, we do not get paid enough to be autopian level, I really wish we did. Even (Because after all, that is what a BMW deserves) so, I still refuse to do hack work. There are days were I lose my *** because of it, but I just cant stoop to that level.

To get back on topic a little, I see A LOT of BMW's come fresh off the truck with marring and swirls like this (well, maybe not quite that bad, but ive seen some that come close). I asked how that could be, and was told that they have lately been washing them at port before they are loaded onto the transporter. I dont know how much truth there is to that, but, its what I was told.

It is my opinion that the car was washed while on the open transporter. At the truckstops they have nasty looking brushes on long sticks that the truckers use to wash their windshields. The severe damage was on the sides, the horz panels where not as bad. Who knows, just my guess..

Had a little bit of sun this morning and just enough time for a few pics before I returned the car to the client.
