thinking of a 350Z...

i am selling my 05 TL and thinking of replacing it with a 350Z. i want a coupe...and winter driving will be handled by my winter beater. :)

a friend working for a local dealership offered the following deal:

04 350Z "Performance" model

38k miles

6spd

$196xx

they said they would add on Nissan Certified PreOwned for $175. that gives it a 12mon/12k mile bumper-to-bumper (since it is already out of warranty). powertrain warranty is something like 6yr/70k mile or maybe more...i forget that part.

i've looked around and think that is a decent deal. any of you Z owners care to chime in on this? things to look for or know before looking at a used Z?

thanks-

I don't own a Z, but from what I have seen with prices around here in my area, for the specs you gave - It sounds like a great deal!

350z + nice wheels = yummy car

I don't own one, but I want to :) I'm waiting for the revisions to trickle down from the upcoming Skyline before I seriously consider one though.

Sounds like a pretty good deal to me. What color is it? You can't go wrong w/ a Z, I love mine!

you should wait untill the new NISMO Z comes out. That thing is going to be monster quick, and you will probably be able to find lots of used Z's at even better prices once people start trading up.

The new Nismo Z has a hideous rear bumper, but aside from that it is awesome.

FYI: One thing to watch out for in the early Z models are tire feathering. It was a huge problem with my 03 and partially on the 04. Make sure and double check to make sure that the vehicle doesn't have that problem if you plan to purchase one.

I concur on this. This was one of the biggest issues with earlier 350Z models. Another issue to possibly look to see if it had the recent fuel filler hose recall.

I love my 350Z. Its and awesome car and very fun to modify. Good luck with it. :2thumbs:

I ma a big Honda Fan, so I would of course say no to Nissan. Hit or miss reliability!

They look nice, but like all the Nissans I have seen, better save your money for those costly repairs!

If they are anything to work on like the 300Z V-6's, they are impossible to work on...what is wrong with the TL?

i'm also a huge honda fan...i'm just looking to get something sportier and in a coupe, rather than a larger sedan like the TL. my TL is awesome...love driving it...but i want more! :)

i am definitely a reliability guy, but at some point there has to be a sacrifice with the choices out there. i don't care for the styling of the S2000 that much...so that's not an option.

i'm open to other cars as well, but the styling and/or prices just don't line up much.

When all is said and done, Nissan makes a very reliable automobile. Like every other vehicle, maintenance and attention to detail are important factors in reliability. The VQ motors that Nissan uses are one of the most reliable engines in the car industry. I would buy a 350Z w/o hesitation if I were in the market for a coupe.

I drive a Nissan Pathfinder that has the same motor as the Z. It requires premium gas w/o question and I run Mobile 1 full synthetic. My truck runs like a champ @ 75K so far. I realize those are relatively low miles, but overall, I am very pleased with my Nissan automobiles.

There are lemons in every crowd, and I think a search for displeased Nissan owners would be difficult.

Like someone else said, avoid 03's and early 04'. For the best upgrades go 06'.

Good luck!

Crap; moderator error . . . I meant to reply to this post, but hit "edit" instead, and didn't notice what I'd done until I hit submit. So, instead of replying to this post, I stomped on it. Sorry about that . . . -- Tort

1. I'm speaking from my own personal experience

2. I said the VQ engines were reliable. Do a google on the VQ engine!

3. Your sentra doesn't have one. I had a Sentra at one time too. I sold it @ 80K with not one problem.

I'm not trying to get into a pissing match over Honda and Nissan. The OP wants a Nissan, more power to him. It has a VQ engine. One of the most reliable engines on the market.

You should really try not to leave people with the impression that you are always right and everyone else is always wrong. It belittles you and leaves a bad taste in everyones mouth!

fight nice, everyone! :) j/k

i can appreciate all of the opinions. if i would just go by online forums, EVERY car is hated, since typically only the people that have issues will post frequently, etc. on my TL forum, the Acura brand is made to sound like it is the devil! hahaha.

i've had good and bad luck with many different brands...so it comes down to luck of the draw (i.e. lemon or not)...and then it's up to the owner to take care of it. obviously there are trends and up front things to be aware of. from info i've heard here and from searching...it sounds like 06 or new is the way to go. maybe a newer model 05.

i'm having my friend at a dealership keep an eye on what's coming through at the dealter auctions as well. i stopped to look at G35 coupes today, but i couldn't beg a salesman to help me. good play, infiniti! (sarcasm)

I am not trying to say I am totally right, but compare the VQ to a Honda engine. Any of them. Are we only talking of the Block's internals or the overal function?

Koodos to your sentra that it did not have a problem, but just like most car enthusiasts I have met say the same thing of Nissan - Hit or miss reliability. It is my opinion, you can take it how you want it.
