Thinking about a new car

I need your opinions. My car is a 99 civic with a huge scrape (about 4 by 4 inches or so) on the front right bumper. THere is a small ding on the door on the drivers side from a shopping cart. Plus before I got the car I guess it had been in a wreck and repaired. Somehow there is water coming in from the outside I think and running underneath the front passenger seat and floorboard soaking through the floorboard. Usually happens after it rains. I have about 4 or 5k left to pay off on it. It has 64000 miles.

Do you think the car is fixable and if not should I just keep it or trade it in.

I am looking for a car that is around 15 to 20k. I was looking at a new 2004 civic or a honda accord 2004. I was wanting to take advantage of the 2.9 percent interest. I want consider a used car with low miles. I want something that is decently sporty but a sedan. No 2 doors. Thanks for your help. If you guys know of a good honda dealer in kansas city area let me know.

Dont like the looks of the SI. Leaning towards an accord or a used acura. I want something with a bit more room.

If you were planning on getting rid of the Civic when you pay it off then, dump it now while it is still in good condition with no rust. If you keep the civic but for the problems then get it fixed.

On the new car front....In that price range there are a lot of great cars to choose from especially if you consider used (1-2 years old with low miles). How large or small do you want to go? The Acura Integra GS-R sedan (mmm vtec) would be great unless it is too small. Other options like the VW Passat or Jetta, Honda Accord and Civic, Toyota Camry, Nissan Altima or Maxima and Volvo S40 and S60 all come to mind. You could probably find a 2003 Mazada 6 and possibly a 2002 Subaru WRX in that price range. Most of the these cars are available in the price range depending on trim levels new also.

Sounds like a fun hunt.

You beat me to it, but if you're a Honda enthusiast, than the GS-R sedan (5 speed I hope) is the perfect choice, it's also a very rare car.

If you want any kind of performance from a Honda, you have to have a B series motor, unless you plan to spend $25,000 on a RSX Type S.

Have you thought about a new Maxima? If you want sporty and sedan, it has both all over the place.

The new max here in Cali is way over the $20K price range. Even for the base stock model, they wanted 27K. I didn't negotiate or anything and they had just come on the market when I went, but I haven't seen enough on the road to think that they're dropping the price to under 20K

I'd go for an Integra sedan. '99's and '00's can be found pretty easily around here for $11-15K. You might have to hold out awhile if you want a GSR though.

Too bad you're in the states. Here in Canada there's a model call Acura EL (heard of it before?). It's really cheap, about $22,000 CDN for a base :bigups

I'd have a look at a 2.5RS Subaru Impreza. They are in the same price range as the Civic Sedans, and currently, I think there is a 0% financing deal and ca$h incentives at Subaru.

The Chrysler Crossfire looks sweet, buy one and let us know if its any good ;).

I saw one at the dealership a couple weeks ago. The salesmen were telling everyone to run their hand down the side of the car or something, there were scratches all over it.

Actually I was looking at toyota camrys the other day..... Kind of a grandma car but they look nice enough for me and have the toyota reliability but I will look at the integras and acuras cause I would like to spend less then 20k

speaking from my position here in chicago, i say go with the mitsubishi lancer. get the evolution rally version, they're not that big here yet [compared to all of the wrx's] and if you don't get the turbo version it should be in your price range.

Only problem (especially for an Autopian) is how cheap the interior materials are. The cloth they use on the seats is very thin and the carpeting is horrible. Don't even get me started on the mouse fur they use. I've never seen interiors that stain as easily. On the plus side, you get 160 hp for reasonably cheap.

pal251-since you were looking at Camrys, you might want to consider the Solara. Sportier than a Camry with the same bulletproof drivetrain. I'm probably going to get a new (newer) car this spring and the Solara is definitely on the list.
