If I want to buy a 4 mpg car that has 900 horse power and guzzles gas, I should be able to. This was once a free country. I understand there need to be rules. Seriously whats next? I fought for, and defended this country once, I can honestly say today I'm not sure if I would do that again. This country took a ****. You could have had micky mouse in the democratic office. and he would have been elected. I'm not going to get into a political debate here, but seriously who really cares if a car gets 35 miles per gallon. Then there is health care which I won't even get into. I need to shut up. lol

There's points I totally agree with you on. For example, they're proven that electric can make 650 HP in street legal vehicle (I saw it in Vegas last year at the CTIA conference).

Let me ask you another question. Should you be allowed to burn garbage (plastic, styrofoam, etc) in your yard, causing thick black toxic smoke to fill the neighbourhood ? Should you be allowed to dump used motor oil in the lake a few blocks from your home ? Or in the sandbox at the local park ?

Most of you will say "no" to those questions, but you'll argue that buying a fuel-inefficient vehicle isn't the same thing. Well, it's been proven that taking a 45min run along the FDR in New York is the equivilant of smoking a pack of cigarettes, so whether we like to believe it or not, driving a gas guzzling carbon-producing vehicle is indeed hurting the environment, but more important, it's hurting us.

That all said, there are technologies out there like the HEMI (which shuts down half of its cylinders when just cruising) that average excellent fuel economy yet still pack some decent power.

As for health care, I enjoy my free Canadian health care :D

You have to keep in mind the travel criteria between the two continents. In the US, I have to drive a few miles to go to a local grocery store, 10-15 miles to go to the mall, and 30 miles to go to work. Those figures are drastically different in many European countries. Back home, everything and anything is *near by*; in the states, it feels like everywhere I go is a voyage. Furthermore, I find that on overwhelming average, the vehicles there are much more economical (at least they were when I last visited). Unfortunately, the price of gas overseas (and even in the states) is inexcusable. :sadpace:

Most North American cities have the benefit of being developed around the modern road system. Most European cities were in existence before such systems and are much more compact. As a result most North American cities are much broader in nature, even our larger urban centers like Chicagoland, the Tri-State Area and Los Angles, while European cities are much more compact.

Just looking at street maps of London and Paris makes me never want to drive there. :)

Luckily for me I live in a small town (approximatly 5 square miles) inside a large urban center and almost everything I do (work, bank, groceries, doctor, gas, entertainment, library, etc) are located inside my little town so my driving could be considered European like, as in, I don't make many long trips, mostly short trips and I don't leave my town (or village to the folks across the pond) that often.

Our great leader lol Socialist just signed a bill that all cars produced must have a 35 mpg minimum. Our country is ruined already. I'm ready to move oversea's.

What do mean it's ruined? My guess is you've never been to Africa, you've never had gangs of armed men raid your village, rape all the women and steal anything worth taking, you've never gone without food for several weeks or probably even a day. The US is in no way ruined relative to much of the rest of the planet. You don't like the current admin, that's your prerogative (I don't care much for them either) but you don't help yourself by making outrageous claims like the country is ruined.

I wouldn't say "ruined" but I am very concerned about the direction this administration is taking us.
