'The Zaino Treatment' for a Black Mustang Convertible

Good Evening,

This beautiful pony-car belongs to Nick (FocusedOnSound), a member on the boards. Nick keeps the car in great shape but expressed problems getting some deeper swirls out of his paint. An avid PC user, Nick didn't trust himself to jump on a black car for the first time with a rozilla (I don't blame him!).

Anyways, the paint was very very smooth, but did have a lack of depth in some areas (see B&A). The swirling throughout was light to moderate except on the fender (repaint) and trunk where it was pretty heavy. My finals were:

-Optimum Wash

-Zaino Z18 Clay

-Hi-Temp Extreme Cut / Optimum Car Polish (50/50) via rotary and LC Cutting Pad @ 1500 rpm

-Blackfire Ceramiclear Finishing Polish @ 1200 rpm via LC Finessing Pad (x2 on hood)

-Zaino Z6 Wipedown

-Zaino Z5 Pro (ZFX'd) by hand

-Zaino Z8 by hand

-Zaino Z6 (for a couple smears) by hand

-Zaino Z16 on tires, wells, plastic trim, and convertible top (looks great!)

-Zaino Z12 Glass Polish and #0000 Steel Wool on exhaust pipes

All in all, 95%+ of the defects were removed and the clarity, color, and reflectivity of all the surfaces was rejuvinated.

Thanks Nick, again, for the business. It was nice chatting today.

Questions/Comments/Advice, please feel free.

Cheers!

Very black and reflective! Even though the paint wasn't that bad to begin with, it shows how properly polishing out even light swirls can make a dramatic improvement in how the car looks.

Excellent as always, Sean. :)

Thanks :D.

Red - Finessing

Slickery: Yep, it's vinyl.

03: I did not remove the spoiler, no. I am thinking of adding that to the services though, that along with the plates removed...That discussion is for another thread though :).

Side note: I thought the Z-16 is "not recommended for vinyl tops."?

Good point, however, those suggestions are more for the "average consumer". I have talked to Sal personally about applying Z16 to any leather, vinyl, plastic, and rubber surfaces. The key is prep and application. I followed up the top with a 'buff' session.

Furthermore, I recieved a PM from Nick saying his top beaded water after the rain and wash he gave it today.

Thanks for the good question, though.

That's good to know that it works in that regard. Reason I asked was because I was just looking at purchasing some Z-16 prior to seeing this thread and remembered that you had used it on a vinyl top. Thanks for clearing that up :)
