How about having CMA do the ultimate machine comparison?, to my knowledge this would be a first.

My proposal;
One rotary (there isn't a whole lot of difference between the brands) and one each of the available d/a's with brand recognition - Makita BO, Flex, PC and Cyclo-be used by someone from CMA to once and for all set the record straight.

To help encourage a positive decision on this I will step up to the plate and offer the use of my Cyclo, all shipping costs provided by me.

I have a Cyclo so you don't need to volunteer. What would you recommend we test for?

I have a Cyclo so you don't need to volunteer. What would you recommend we test for?
 
I have seen threads before of some posting pics of polisher capabilities. Problem is, much of that is subjective to the skill level of the operator, type of paint, pads, polish and so on.

I pulled the trigger on a Makita from CMA and plan on a test of my own next weekend. I plan on trying a few types of pads/polishes. I'll gladly post some pics of the results and my likes/dislikes of the polisher. If others follow, we'll have our buff down thread. Until then, CMA's website has done a pretty good job with reviews of the different models. Check it out.
 
My suggestions would be to test for;
Noise level-meters are cheap, rotary, d/a
Vibration-both rotary, d/a
Throw- d/a
When pressure is applied, when; if rotation stalls-both rotary,d/a
Throw should rotation stall, d/a
How much pad heat is produced under heavy pressure-both rotary, d/a

Correction-both rotary, d/a
Consequential damage-rotary, d/a
How heavy does the machine feel-both
How is the 'balance'-both
How comfortable is the machine to use-both
How comfortable is the machine to use for extended periods-both


Stuff like this.

I don't think it would take any more effort to put together than the great reviews that are being posted here and the end result would be a review that probably would stress the server in accomodating the hits.

Heck, for the right test I would pay to access the results, but it would have to be done right, video, sound ; the whole nine yards. (Does anyone know where this saying came from?)




It would be subjective to some degree certainly, but then again what testing is not?
