You can get a used V6 Mazda 6 in that price range. great car. plenty of people autox with it and it's pretty quick.



I've had one for 8 months and I still grin when I drive it.

Reid, Never been a fan of the newer Mustangs personally, but an earlier model (like, 1st of 2nd generation) isn't out of the question.

Not tryin' to bash but I've heard rumors of QC issues on thes car already. It's a first gen platform so I think it has some bugs. Other than that it seems to line up w/ what you're lookin' for.



The WRX would be my first choice and I hope to own one some day soon even though I'm twice your age. I had an AWD/turbo Eagle Talon 10 yrs ago and it was the shiznit!!! Great all weather car and sporty enough for the weekends. Drove it 120k miles 'til I traded it in but the insurance is steep on a turbo car for your age range.



That particular WRX seems like it has some high milage on it though. Keep in mind also that if you can't land the WRX you may be able to find a regular Impreza that would be more economical and better on your insurance but still fun to drive w/ the AWD. You could also add a turbo to one of these later if you needed too . . . ;)



Maybe take a look at the SVT Focus also:

SVT Focus They're kinda smallish lookin' to me but everyone I've talked to that has one says they're a kick to drive and pretty economical too!

Not a bad choice. They all have manual transmissions, fun to drive, comfortable, have a reasonable level of equipment (no strippers), and has a decent trunk. The only downside is FWD, but it seems to be one of the better FWD chassis around.



Hell, for 15K you can get a new ZX3.

Like I mentioned last night, I'm going to look into the RSX Type S some more. It might be exactly what I'm looking for, sans the FWD. I'll have to get over that. Mom and I are gonna go check one out in a few hours.

I priced some RSXs by me and there all around 20k and up, and thats for non Type S. Maybe like an older Acura Integra would be good? You can probably get a good one around 10k and from there determine if you want to invest another 5k into or save your money. 5th Generation Nissan Maximas are nice too. There a tad too fast and big for me, but there prices are fair around 12k. One more suggestion might be an older Audi A4 1.8T quattro. Only thing is it might not have the reliability of some Japanese cars.



*edit* Acura TSXs are 20k and up my bad. The RSXs Type S are around 14-16k in my area.
 
Yup, the RSX will go for a little more than 20k from a greedy dealer, but I've found a few as low as 14.9k. I also considered the 1.8t Quattro. Still an option. I just need to do some more research as I don't know much about Audi's long-term reputations.

It retailed for closer to 20k....I picked it up as a gm demo car. factory warranty and all. It had some miles on it, but I like it. They do depreciate quite rapidly though....that's why I got the gap insurance on it. Only time i'd ever consider it

:xyxthumbs People have made a lot of good suggestions but I like these two, a lot. The RSX is a car that IMHO has a very "right" feel to it--simple gauges, good seats, a great driving position, good quality materials, excellent clutch and shifter and THAT ENGINE. If it was for me it would be the perfect commuter/daily driver.



The A4 1.8TQ, I'm biased, I have an '03 and LOVE it. You'll have to settle for an older model B5 body style ('01 or older) to get one in your price range but many people prefer it. It's really a different class of car than the RSX, more luxury than sporty but a very nice interior and an extremely solid feel to it at all speeds.



As usual, it'll come down to personal preference on your part. Both cars can easily be made a lot faster in time if you so desire. If you choose the Audi, Morbid and myself will be able to give to LOTS of suggestions for mods!;) Test drive them, a lot!

Agreed. Toyotas are about as bulletproof as you can get, TRD already has performance parts for it (including a dealer installed supercharger that raises the horsepower to 200) and it looks a lot better than the Civic does.



Stock 5 speed tCs run high 15s at around 87 mph.

One of the problems with the Scions (any of them) is that they're just out of that price range. I t really needs to be as close to 10k as possible, but if we find that *perfect* car, they'll find some way to put down a few thousand dollars. I won't be able to browse Autopia for a while, but I thank all of you for the excellent suggestions.



I'm going to see a 1998 528 today or tomorrow. Hope it's a stick :D
 
Glenn - you are looking at cars that will eat up all your money down the road. A 528? Get something economical. It would be much wiser.



So are you spending 10K or 15K on the car? I am confused.
 
I've only heard about BMW's long term reliability. If this car I see today is an auto, I'm going to look up e34 540/ 6 speeds.



The 'comfort' budget is 10k. If we find 'the one' and can't get as low, then we can spend no more than 15k.
 
I agree with tdekany that you are looking at cars that will rape you in repair costs, especially considering what you're looking at for your budget (90s BMWs with, I have to assume, high mileage).



You're not even 16 yet. Go for reliability and safety first.
