I am detailing the wifeys car either today or next Tuesday. She has a factory red stripe, like a vinyl pinstripe, down the side of the whole car on the upper portion, thin but there. When I polish with the pc do I need to avoid this or can I polish right over it without worry of damaging it, she likes it and doesnt want to take it off. :nixweiss

I would definitely avoid the area with the PC. If anything take a foam applicator with your polish and do the area around the pinstripe by hand.

Try doing a search on this topic breakneck, some people mask over it with thin 1/4" painters tape, several other people say they just polish right over this stuff to no ill effect. :nixweiss

I've polished over those stripes before. Unless your polish is like 400 grit sand paper then you are probably ok. :lol Just be aware of areas where the pinstripe is peeling or chipped and be careful on those areas. You should be fine. :bigups

I did a search, it wasnt successful. Thanks for the help :nixweiss
Yeah I forgot to mention it wasn't easy to find this info... required some patience and "creative searching". :p

For future reference the right side of my brain the side that controls creative behavior is dead. Jngr- thanks for the help, I wont go over and over it just up to it and start under it as a new section just to be safe.

I sometimes hit those on cars with my rotary. Never had them be damage before.

The only thing is avoid hitting them with clay. It won't remove the stripping but the clay will leave lots of residue on the edges.
