 The SHO returneth...Please make it so, Ford.
Still speculation, but from your lips to God's ear, along with Bill Ford, Jr., and Alan Mullaly's ears as well.

We own a 2004 Taurus and for those already whining about the Taurus in general, ours is also a wagon ;) It currently has about 40K miles on it and we have not had a single issue with it. It is good solid and reliable transportation which is why we bought it.

Too much automotive snobbery here of late :down

Unfortunately, I can agree. It gets even worse when you are on a car-specific forum. If you don't have this mod, or this car, you are sometimes instantly looked down upon. That is more of an attribute of the person than anything else because he/she is trying to masquerade his/her own insecurities.

As for me, I have driven cars ranging from a Ford Fairmont to brand new Beamers and I learned that sometimes you can have the most fun in a vehicle that no one thinks about. I have almost as much fun with my gf's Neon as I did with my Maximas and quite a few of my more memorable experiences have been behind the wheel of a Taurus/Sable.

Len,

I still have fond memories of driving a '93 SHO and I can say it was a blast. It was one of those cars, like my Maximas, where people didn't think it would do anything and they got roasted in many a stoplight grand prix or highway roll because of it.

When the SHO went to V8, it was a shame it didn't sell as well. However, that V8 is finding new life in the Volvo XC90 and the Volvo S80.

I have an 02 SES Sport, bought it new and now have 58k on it. Never had a single problem with it. The duratec provides enough power, but I can see where those who had a rental with the vulcan found it sluggish. I like my car, but I can't say I would buy an 08, I simply don't like what they did to the 500/Montego/Taurus/Sable.... I still don't know what I will get when I decide to move on from my 02, but for now, I like it :)

You have to see them in person - saw several last week, with manufacturer's license plates and no disguises. They look much better in person.

BTW, nice color on your Taurus. Similar to my Montego.

All it is is a re badged 500. They are dropping the 500 name and changing it to Taurus.
With the new 3.5L V6, and the new six-speed tranny, plus the suspension changes, and the Ford SYNC, "all it is" is a damn good sedan, especially with the all-wheel-drive, huge interior, and huge trunk.

What I mean is that the prototype of the car, that has been seen for a while now, was badged the 500.

I think it's going to be a more competitive sedan. I like the styling of the existing Five Hundred and Montego, and I like the changes for the 2008's, going back to old names notwithstanding.

Some like it, some don't. With all the sedan choices on the market the 500/Montego/Taurus would be my last. The styling couldn't possibly be any more bland than it is.

I'm glad to see the Taurus coming back. I would like it more if they were coming out with a new model instead of changing/renaming an existing car. My wife and I rent cars often. We have gotten a Taurus several dozen times. We really liked the car and other than being dirty and one we took back because of an alignment problem the rentals were great. It was a perfect car for our family. We liked the rentals so much that a few weeks ago we bought a 2005 Taurus that was a company car from a company some of our family members work for. Car was well maintained, very clean and we paid $1400 under Nada trade in value and $3500 under Nada retail value.
