The Softest Plushest Thickest Microfiber Towel?

Yeah, when QDing you gotta watch that you don't just bend all that long nap over to the point where you don't really *have any nap* functionally speaking. I have to watch that with my MF mitts.

And it can provide *so* much cushioning that it's not aggressive *enough* for product removal duty.

The problem with the MF mitts is really the density of the strands.

Long nap bent over on itself isn't so much a problem as compression of nap at a point where they lay in opposite directions, thereby exposing backing material. In that case, the length of the nap isn't so much a problem as the density is. A greater density can help prevent backing material exposure. Avoiding excess compression is also the issue there, as it would be with any length of nap.

This is a good reason for avoiding using any towel in a wadded (sp?) up form. I've seen some youtube videos where pros crumple up the towel for QD or residue removal. If folded properly into quarters, this doesn't become an issue.

For residue removal, our testing has shown the longer naps are sexier and softer to use, but much less effective, particularly on the more difficult to remove residues. But they sure feel nice in your hands. :)

I have a few of Bob's phat towels and really like them too, but at $6 a piece, they are a litle pricey!! Danase needs to run a sale on them!!! I've been buying a lot of nice towels for nice prices from Justin at Obsessive Detail and from Bob at Detailers Domain.

Danase Water Devourer is a drying towel.
Well I am not sure what the difference is in them because I just got one of Bob's P.H.A.T. towels and one of his Devourer's and the only difference I can see and feel is the fact that one is bigger than the other, they both seem like the exact same material.

Maybe BOB can chime in on this??

I still have 3 of Nick's Detailers Paradise Monster Fluffies bought about 3 years ago. They are by far my most plush MF towel. I have tried tons of other vendor's towels but don't have enough experience to offer anything other than a comparison to the Monsters.

Bob's PHAT towels seem to get a lot of mention here too and I'll undoubtedly try them soon.

the monster fluffies are very nice towels and definitely alot plusher than most all the mf's mentioned in this thread. they're a bit pricey though at around $10 each/3 for $25...

1st One = Chemical Guys ELITE ULTRA-PLUSH SUPER PREMIUM

2nd One = Eurow Microfiber Terry Weave Towel

3rd One = Targets Vroom Towel

4th One = Eurow Shag Weave Towel

I see that the Eurow shag has stitched edging. The DP monster do as well I think but it looks softer than that Eurow.

One day I'll try em.

Definitely not inexpensive, but the quality is there:

Ultra Thick Micro Fiber Towel - Drying - Car Care - Griot's Garage

and

Three Micro Fiber Polish Removal Cloths - Orbitals & Polishing Tools - Polishing - Car Care - Griot's Garage

as well as:

Three Micro Fiber Wax Removal Cloths - Orbitals & Waxing Tools - Waxing - Car Care - Griot's Garage

All of these have NO acrylic fibers...even the edge stitching is cotton. Quality stuff, but not the kind of thing you guys would likely by in bulk!!

I love these, but then again I am not a pro detailer. Two cents worth only :think2

I'm not sure that wound edges are a bad as some would like you to believe. In most cases you have to rub the stitching real hard on a CD to produce a scratch. That isn't the way you'd use a towel on a car. You do need to check corners for hard nubbins though.

Karburn- I wonder if Griot's has upgraded their MF wax/polish removal towels  I wouldn't be surprised if they have...back when they first started carrying them I bought a *scad* of 'em only to find that they micro-marred certain fragile paint surfaces on my (single stage lacquer) Jaguar. I sent them all back (one open/tested set of each and numerous more still in the wrapper) along with detailed documentation regarding their potential for marring.

I also had lousy results with their MF bonnets for wax/polish removal by machine, but I see they've improved both the bonnets and the foam backing pad. I do like good by-machine removal systems and I wouldn't hesitate to try their current version if I weren't already well-stocked in that dept.

I've heard nothing but good reports about their MF drying towels, but I can't help but wonder if they're as soft as some of the "extra soft waffle weaves" available elsewhere. That's usually not an issue, but it's nice to be able to use the same drying towel on all my vehicles. If you ever try one of the super-soft ones, I'd like to hear how it compares with the Griot's WW.

I don't mean the above as a slam, just a caveat emptor...I shoulda CD-tested those wax/polish removal towels before I used 'em anyhow.

Heh heh, regulars here have already heard my tale of woe...Griot's weren't too pleased when I returned several hundred dollars worth of merchandise, even though it was at *their* insistence that I do so (after I casually mentioned my displeasure as an aside to one of their phone reps- I had been resigned to just keeping the stuff for use on service loaners/beater cars; they literally talked me into sending it back). I even told them to just issue a credit for my refund, thinking that'd make for no hard feelings...naive me :o I'm, *finally* back on their mailing list now..about time considering all the money I spend with them ;)

I can just imagine what a service loaner looks like when you get one, probably still cleaner than 99% of the cars on the road... :chuckle:
