Correct.



The car in this thread is the one that one silver. It was marked down for incorrect nuts on the battery (no I'm not kidding). I personally think one of the judges was gunning for this car because this car had shown his up pretty bad at a previous show. Even the winners commented that this car was the best looking one there.



I also detailed the Gold winner..
 
To update these are the winners of the Cavallino Classic are as follows. If you scored 95 or better you qualify for a judging for a Major award.



In classes:

A score of 95 or better gets a Platinum Award

A score of 90 or above gets a Gold Award

A score of 85 or above gets a Silver Award



There can be multiple Platinums, Golds and Silvers in each class so these do not represent 1st, 2nd or 3rd like the Olympics.

Unfortunately these types of shows are not judged on the merits of the detailing but rather whether or not screws are correct, etc. This is why one of the cars we will have competing I have already poured several hours of research looking at factory pictures as well as talking to one of the orginal builders of the car (its English but I cannot go into more detail) making sure that I know what the finish should be of every material so I can hopefully assist my clients further in prepparing these cars (combining car knowledge with detailing skill).



Also, I preppared 4 other Boxers since that show (including 3 for the show, one that did not start that other wise would have placed Platinum according to the judge) for a total of 8. This particular model is becoming my specility, so except much better things in the future. Thanks again!

Thanks Ryan, unforunately I cannot discuss the other cars we had place at Cavallino because these guys are very serious and have told me they don't want to give away their edge (once client had me sign an exclusitivey agreement that I will not detail any cars in his class at next years Amelia Island show). However we did place platinum. I also have one car that we will be prepparing for Pebble Beach that will probably recieving over 100 hours in detailing and should make for a pretty cool write up.

Yes, unforuntately the cars are judged on correct nuts and bolts vs. the quality of the detailing, as you said here.

As you said, the cars where not judged on the level of detail (because if they where I would have won 7 platinums) but rather on the judges perception of what they felt a quality car was.



I find your post on this thread slightly insulting since on another thread you knocked my contribution to the cars, then bring this one up to point out which place this car recieved, then tell me great job.



However, besides having the honor of working several platinum cars (as well as gold and and silver) I had a great job of taking beautiful Ferrari's to their absolute maximum potenital. Also, we picked up several new clients whose cars will be getting full Cavallino preps for next year because they where very impressed with the cars that we did, and in their eyes had never seen cars look better. So it was a great time at Cavallino on many levels, and to be trusted with the care of some truely fine automobiles is a great honor.

I have changed my mind on my 1st real car from a mini to a Porsche 911, boxster or cayman on the sole factor of that i can show it and it would be judged for the quality of the detail. Im thinking maybe i can pick up a few more clients. Unless i can find a show for minis somewhere.



But this is AMAZING TODD! You are the best! If you are going to be at pebble beach then i might see you there. One of my dads buddies might be taking his ford model A or something. I think i might give him a free concourse detail. He is doing me a lot of favors so i wouldnt feel like i am getting the short end too much. We dropped 1 of my cars to get worked on at his place today and the next should be soon hopefully.

Being an absolute rookie in this field, I can't add to Todd's detailing accolades with any degree of credibility. If I may, however, I would like to tell anyone who does not know Todd a little bit about the man.



This thread speaks for itself. Todd is probably among the top one percent of talents in the detailing world. He is obviously extremely busy. Reading the awards listed above is a jaw dropping experience. We all are familiar with Todd's work.



What you may not know about Todd is that he is one of the most generous people I have ever met. He recently drove two hours each way to an Autopia meet simply to help three rookie enthusiast level detailers for no apparent reason other than his love of the profession.



Todd was among the first to arrive and the absolute last to leave, eight hours later. With the assistance of ZoomZoom Mazda5 (Angelo), Blk45 (Erick), Premium (Garry), and DjErickD (Erick), Todd conducted a graduate level seminar in the art of paint correction.



I know that I speak for all the newbies when I say thanks to Todd and all the Autopians who so generously share their knowledge, equipment and time to help the rest of us.

1st post in this thread after viewing it problably a dozen times! Cavalino and Detailing.....that's where everyone is on their A game and the hacks stick out like a sore thumb. Awsome work Todd. This thread separates the men from the boys. :drool:
