Hi everybody, this is my first post. I'm going to try to detail a 10 yr. old car. It's has only 20k, and it's been
garaged. it's only had cleaner wax every year. I'm going to clay, then use meguairs # 9 swirl with a DA.
Then I was going to use Autoglym Super Resin Polish.
I was then going to glaze. Which would be better, Poor boy white diamond or meguairs #3 machine glaze? The car is light tan.Next step would be autoglym extra gloss protection (two coats). Final step would be pinnacle liquid souveran wax two coats.
Is this overkill? How are my steps? Any input would be great. Thanks.

Re: Noob to this site

Welcome to DC. Glad to have you here.

Sounds like too many steps to me. I'm not familiar with Autoglym products but I would start with the #9 and see what results you get with just that. The white Diamond is probably a little more user friendly but both will do a great job as a glaze. The key is to not use very much product. At this point applying one coat of lsp is all that is necessary. I doubt you will be benefiting the finish beyond that with multiple coats of lsp but it won't hurt if you felt the need.

If the #9 didn't give you the paint correction you were looking for I would step up to a more aggressive polish.

Troy has given you some good advice.

I'm a little slow in getting back to the site, I've been so busy. I just wanted to thank everybody for there input. The car I detailed was a 9 year old camry, with only 20k miles and garaged, but it only seen cleaner wax every other year. I clayed, then went to Meg's #9, with a light cutting pad. (edge 2000 green). For the most part it came out good, you can only see slight swirls under 500w lights.I didn't have the moxie to go with a medium cutting pad. Next step I went to Autoglym's super resin polish. It's really a cleaner, polish, seal. It suppose to be as good as Klasse AIO. It really did a nice job. I then went to autoglym's extra gloss protection, their sealant. I tried using a 7424 with a finishing pad, but the sealant was like water (smelled like gas). The pad just absorbed the liquid. I switched to a foam hand pad, and was able to control the sealant much better. It went on with ease, and came off just as easy. I did a second coat the next day, and it brought out a little more gloss. for the last step, I waxed with natty red. I ended up doing three coats of red, each coat the car seem to get a wetter and wetter look.I didn't think I could get this look with a light colored car. the color is a cashmere beige.I did a complete interior and then engine. For a first full detail, I was pleased with the work. I ordered a slew of poor boys products, ssr1,ssr 2.5, pro polish, exp, spray and waterless wash, and wheel sealant. Looking foward to the next detail.
