The reason we live where you vacation......

That last pic reminds me of when my brother lived in Daytona. He would call every day during the winter to remind me it was 80 there. I always loved going down there to visit him. Florida is awesome.

It is nice here, and you will find Ronkh that the more further south you go the more exotic it is. We went scuba diving at the keys and it was amazing. The water there was neon blue, we caught a bunch of lobster, there was wild iguanas running around everwhere, probably one of the most beautiful places I have ever been.
 
You must have waited for a cool weather day to come out of the house and take those pics. :)

If you really want a vacation dreamland, it's San Diego.
 
We lived in coastal GA for seven steamy/sweaty years before being able to move back west, to da desert.

The desert environ is comfortable, except for the dust (don't own a black car!). I need mountains. I need open roads. I need impressive geographical formations/canyons/mesas. I grew up on the OR coast, so don't need to look at the sea anymore ('course it was also blinkin' miserable on the Oregon coast).

I/we, would never move back to the SE. Prowling all of FL just didn't impress me. Sorry. I don't like to live in a sauna. It was truly miserable for us.

We have some friends who recently moved back to Naples, FL, and they just loooove it. I guess they're right, and we are wrong.

You stay there. We like the big/open/rugged vistas, with curvy roads that can be enjoyed at high speed. Running into a hoard of grasshoppers is just as bad as Love Bugs though. ICK.
 
My days of wanting to go to the beach are over. I prefer the mountains most of the time, green during the summer, and colors in the fall. The beach can be a nice place to visit.

However, it cannot match the food that is possible along the coast and of course during January and February outside activities can be limited in the mountains.
 
My brother lives near Crystal River and never stays there during the summer. In summer he lives in Traverse City, MI where it's cool and walkers don't impede traffic.

DC...Florida is prime area for retired folks because the tax rate is lower due to tourist distractions.

As for me, the best location in the nation is near your kids and grandkids. :)
