the Gurureports review of Meguiars #26

hehe.. I don't remember seeing any nice cars when i was in the phillippines.. all I saw were jeepneys... lol are jeepneys fun to detail?
 
hmm, when was the last time you've visited? and which part?? i sense a little stereotyping maybe...



Manila streets are filled with nice cars like bimmers, lancer evos, benzes, jags, even porshes and bentleys at times these days, though jeepneys are still present (i don't think they'll go away)...



my car is probably the most "generic" car out here, along with civics...



detailing jeepneys? hehe, why bother, their bodies are made from 100% stainless steel... no rust, no paint, no swirls... they have a chrome-like finish all year round hehe... no problems for them.

Carnauba's don't last in blistering heat on a dark color car. I put both #26 and P21S on both a Red and White car. The Red was shot in about 4 weeks, regardless of whether it was P21S, or Meguiars #26. The white car lasted a lot longer.

I've been using the liquid version of #26 as my primary wax for my detailing business for 8 years now (although I am flirting with going to S100/P21S depending on longevity). I have some customers who have a couple of LS 400s that I wax 3-4 times a year for them and wash every other week. I know they also run them through commercial car washes on the week I don't wash them. Even when they were only getting their cars waxed every 4 months (finally got them down to every 3 months), the paint was still beading, which was one of the reasons they only got them waxed 3 times a year. Of course, we have no acid rain or industrial fallout to speak of in the Dallas area, so I can't guarantee you will get that much longevity where you live.



BTW, here is a pic of a conversion van I did about a week ago with the liquid #26. Definitely gave it a nice, wet shine.

Well, folks, even though I started this thread to learn more about #26 and its strong durability showing in gurureports, Ive finally decided to go with a different wax altogether! Not because the 26 wasnt well commented on, but because there's a carnauba wax that just seems to last longer, according to most accounts...And that wax is the Collinite Marquis D'Elegance! By all accounts this stuff is simply the longest lasting Carnauba available...And for those who say its not as strong in the reflectivity area, well, whats wrong with the Collinite as the base coat, topped with the P21S/S100 ?



And, for those who like to polish their paint first before applying a pure wax (no cleaners) topping, but are concerned about polishing more than a couple times a year, why not try laying down a coat of, say, Meguiars #6 or MOthers cleaner wax, or for stronger cleaning, 3M MOderate strength cleaner wax, all topped with the Collinite, or the P21S/S100 for those occasions when youre not going to polish the paint first with something stronger.



Thats the great thing about car finish care...there are so many ways to accomplish good results, you can be really creative if you know what youre doing.



For the Phillipines, as theVeed says, where the wax has a hard time lasting, again, Id say try the Collinite, if you want to stay carnauba. RE the finding that dark colors cause the wax to degenerate first, I guess that would be due to the fact that dark colors tend to absorb the heat, while light colors reflect it...absorbing the heat will cause the wax to degrade faster.
 
Good choice Paul, I would've gotten one of the Collinite products (or tried to get the Marquis) if I knew about them. As a result, I'm trying to find more ways to use up my #26. :p



That's a good suggestion to theveed btw. If Collinite's detergent-proof, it should last a bit better under heavy pollution (which shares some similarities to detergents).

How I wish I can give products like Collinite a try... The best we could do here are Meguiar's, Zymol, Eagle One and Mothers... :(



Now, if only somebody could send me some... ;) ;)



hehe... Where can I get it from the web? maybe I can ask a friend in the US to get it for me... Thanks again
 
Meguiars #9 followed by #26 is the best combo for a dark colored car.



I tried both paste and liquid. Paste does last longer. Liquid buffs up easier. Both offer the same shine.



You decide which is most important: Durabability or time you spend. :D

I'm surprised. I've used #26 on my non-garaged, red F150 and dark green Taurus and found it to bead like crazy for at least 8 weeks. I've switched to P21s on my F150 but still consider #26 to be the go-to wax if I don't want to wax every month.
 
It all depends on how much rainfall, acid content in rain, wash frequency, etc you have in your areas...



My brother in law's CRV (who lives in a suburbian/provincial area ) wax (i believe he only uses a cleaner wax) beads even after 2 weeks of rain and heat...



It all depends on your conditions
 
I've been OCD for about 4 summers. Last summer I went 7 months before rewaxing. From May -- November. It was fine. the other summers I went 45 days on cleaner wax and generally 90 days otherwise. But this summer has been much hotter and drier. Circumstances change the need.

It's definitely a mistake. Meguiars #26 beaded for 3 full weeks longer, but they mistakenly gave #26 a C for durability and Rain Dance a C-. Based on other waxes that beaded the full 8 weeks, the lowest score was a B- and #26 had more beads than that wax. Meguiars also had better appearance scores overall also.



I hope Steve recalculates the score for #26 to reflect the durability error.
