the 'good-bye' cars of 2006

I know they finally quit making the 2 door blazers. :D

2 door trucks in general are a dieing breed :( the 2 door explorers are gone :sadpace: they should bring back the bronco..one of my favorite all time vehicles :2thumbs:

I could never be able afford one but it is sad for me to see Porsche end production of the Carrera GT. The technology and performance of the car was incredible, yet it could be driven daily if you wanted to.

I'll miss the GTO, loved driving it, but the styling wasn't there.

The Lincoln LS had a nice run, I considered it last year in my car search.

That article is coming up on being a year old. It's been confirmed there are no plans for a GTO in the near future. Check out last month's Motor Trend, Car and Driver, etc.

Although I'm sure the GTO is a blast to drive, I'm not gonna miss it's bland style. I'm on the bandwagon of "GTO haters".

I like the Lincoln LS, but I guess it's time is up. Is the Zephyr(sp?) it's replacement?

Yup, sadly. They take a RWD, 280HP V8 Sport Sedan and replace it with a FWD, 220 HP POS. Real smart Lincoln.

Actually the Lincoln MKS replaces the LS

"Under the hood there’s a 315-horsepower, 4.4-liter V8 engine matched to a six-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels." :D

Based on the Volvo S80 platform, Motor Trend's got a small write up on it this month as well.

They say that but it isn't true. LS is a mid sized car, MKS is a full sized car that will become the flag ship vehicle when Town Car dies off after 2010.

The Zephyr is the LS replacement, its the same size car.

True the Zephyr and the LS are "Mid-Size", however that doesn't mean it replaced the LS, in fact they are both being built in 2006. How about this, the MKS in ideology is really the replacement to the LS. The Zephyr costs $10000 less, it's FMC levarging the Mazda6 platform across all their brands. It's their attempt to reach a new entry level customer. They definetly aren't in the same league.

Lincoln reports that the MKS will replace the LS in their lineup in 2007. The Zephyr is a bit smaller than the current LS and the MKS will be larger than the LS, so it's just a matter of what you want to believe, as to what's replacing what in their lineup.

Regardless the MKS looks to fill that segment that wants a V8 and not a FWD.

I am going to miss ths taurus. I had 1999 taurus up until august of 05 and then i got my passat. I had less problems with the taurus then i have had with the vw up until this point

I'm not surprised to see the RSX go. It's been struggling for quite a while now. They even renamed it from "Integra" to "RSX" over in the US market to make it more appealing. In comparison to other Acura vehicles, I don't think the RSX fits in at all.
