im not sure about everyone else..but i always see people at gas stations cleaning their car (not the windows, the body) with the window squeege! this kills me as i just stare at their techniques of "cleaning" their car. wont most window detergents kill any wax on the paint?

Yeah most windshield fluids are detrimental to wax. A lot of gas stations just put water in those containers during the warmer months.

I've seen people wash their cars with those too. :down

But honestly, do you think these people have any wax on their cars anyway? I doubt it.

I seriously don't understand most people. Why wouldn't you wax your car. It protects the paint and to boot it makes it a lot better looking. And best of all, it takes a grand total of 1/2 hour max to do it by hand. I'm amazed as I walk thru a parking lot after it rains and see that nearly 95% of the cars have no wax on them (as shown by the lack of water beading). $10 for a cheap OTC wax, a half hour of your time, THAT'S ALL IT TAKES!! I will never understand...

The worst part of the squeegee on paint method, is DRAGGING the dirt particles across the paint surface, leaving huge amounts of scratches.....

Such a lack of understanding. :grinno:

I detailed a 1993 Lexus. The owner had never detailed it, and ran it through the automatic (brush) car wash once per quarter.

He was getting ready to sell the car (of course, why else would you detail it?)

He REFUSED any wax, sealant, or polish on the clear coat paint!!!! :nono

Just wash and clean the interior (which, BTW, had old dried food stains everywhere)...

The scratches and swirls were the worst I'd ever seen. He said, and I quote,
"This car looks great! And the clearcoat sure is doing it's job!"

I said...
But what protects the clearcoat?

He responded, in all his infinite wisdom...
Don't need nuthin' !

What an idiot.

Most people go out and buy the cheapest crap they can get their hands on, and it ends up being some product that is super thick and a total PITA to use. Then it ends up taking 4 hours to wax their car, and it only lasts a few weeks. Plus their arms feel ready to fall off.

That discourages people from doing it.
