The fear of wetsanding = OVERATED!! **56K danger**

Nice work! I need to get my car's paint wetsanded (one month since new paintjob) and I hate paying someone to do it... but I'm worried that I'll mess something up. Maybe I'll try it on the underside of the hood or something lol, and if I do a good job move on to the mirrors, etc

well, teh fear of wetsanding is back... i just ruined my car's finish permanently. Good thing it's the fender and it will be cheap to repaint.... but still incredibly pissed at myself. I'll post pics later.

I wetsanded a corner of the bumper and it was going great so I tried the fender... still was going good. Brought out the buffer, and somehow burned thru the finish. (right in the middle of the fender, so much for it only being on edges) I stopped and finished the rest off by hand with rubbing compound then meguiars #9 and the stuff done by hand actually came out really nice.... but now I have a hole in the paint that makes the whole car look 10x worse...

Yes, I was. I did my mirrors today, and those now went from the roughest part on the car to the best looking and smoothest.... I just wetsanded the front bumper and am about to go out and use the rubbing compound and swirl remover... hopefully the bumper will look just as good as the rest I did!

Oh, and I also went over the panel that has the burn through on it... it doesn't look as bad now, and I don't think I'm going to even bother getting it repainted right now. (it's a really small mark... but it's the only flaw on the car so far)
