The end of the detailing industry as we know it?

Very interesting. I wonder when MB will actually start using this cleatcoat on their production cars.

Eh we're all still gonna wax :)

Now if only Lexus would see this and start using it for the SC430 line!

Damn car is a rock magnet! Thank God I installed Armorglove!

Gee maybe I sould get the product specs and send it to Lexus Customer Service as a big hint.

Its about time someone came up with a solution to the soft paint problem of modern paint. I would imagine other paint suppliers are working on similar products. Hopefully PPG can sell this technology to other automakers but the fact that MBz rolled this into production first prolly means this new stuff is really expensive to use. I wouldn't expect to see it on 2004 Camrys and Cavaliers, if ya know what I mean.

Still, interesting stuff. Thanks Al.

it says in the article they will have an aftermarket clearcoat that is about the same makeup of the one MB will be using. I guess you could get your car resprayed if you really wanted to.

Hey cool find Al! :xyxthumbs

People once in a while ask about high-tech paints like this, but no one can seem to remember what the product was so the thread goes nowhere. I can't remember if CeramiClear is the same "self-healing" paint that was mentioned a long time ago last year. It could be, although I'm not sure if this nanoparticle technology they mention is the same as the encapsulated stuff that was mentioned earlier. Sounds like this paint is just really hard....

I'm not sure if this would end the detailing industry though. I imagine this paint would still be prone to oxidizing. It could mean the end of swirls though, which I like the idea of! :D

That article doesnt say anything about resistance to swirls. Mar resistance is a pretty broad statement. It looks like its a bit "harder" maybe more chip resistant coating. I'm sure it will still swirl. There have been articles floating around about "self healing" paints, but I dont think they are in the near future.
