I am looking to ease my way into doing a few boats just because the area I live in is a prime market,and I need a little advice on gettingn started product wise. I only have a few things for gel coats like Waxing Frenzy and AIO. What products do youall recommned for boats and maybe RVS. Im also looking very closely at buying a rotary which I understand is needed when dealing with oxidized gels. Im thinking about the 30 dollar Chicago model from Harbor Frieght. Any opinons on the rotary. Im only 19 and dont want to spend the money yet for a brand name.

It's probably a good idea to stop by your local boat supply store and check out some of their polishes and waxes. Talk with the sales people there and find out as much as you can about the products they offer. I personally like to use many of the Meguiar's boat polishes and waxes, such as their Premium Flagship products. However, there are many other brands, such as 3M and Starbrite that also supply some very good products. The key is to stick with boat products that are designed to be use on fiberglass gelcoat boat finishes.
 
I detail boats here in SO MD full time right now. I use mostly meguiars one step compound and polish with a wool pad. It leaves great results, and then i use a product made by entire car protection (ECP) which i get from a local distributor called lightning polyseal as the sealant. Wipe on/ Wipe off application, usually applied by PC. Just keep in mind that people with boats have big expectations becuase of the price they are paying. As far as interiors go i usually just wipe down the cockpit with APC and clean/seal the windows. If they have carpet down in the cockput i vacuum/shampoo it. For the cabin I usually just use what you would detailing a car. General vinyl cleaner/protectant. Shanpoo carpets. Wipe everything down with whatever APC i happen to be using at the time. It's good money, just be careful. If your not really getting into it and wont have insurance...when you detail someones million dollar pleasure yahct and mess it up they will come after you personally.



Only being 19 shouldn't hold you back if you want to get into it. I'm 19 and have a full mobile trailer setup, and am registered, and insured for $2 MIL liability with the business.

The only products you need to detail gelcoat with are 3m finesse it 2, 3m rubbing compound(various ones if needed), and collinite fleetwax paste.

I agree with the others, use dedicated gel coat products. Regular car polishes and compounds just aren't strong enough on faded gel coat.
