The 9227C's wrench

If the hex wrench (or is it an allen wrench) that comes with the Makita 9227 is missing, can another wrench that would work be purchased at Home Depot or Lowes? Or is the wrench specific to this machine and a replacement would have to be ordered from Makita?

you mean the allen wrench to tighten the handle? It's just a metric size you can pickup at any hardware shop.

it's a regular hex wrench and you only need it to change the handle

you can get a replacement anywhere

F.Y.I Allen is a manfg. of hex keys and used as a nickname for them they are one in the same

Then what type of tool do you use to change backing plates? The reason I am asking is I am looking at some 9227C's on E-bay and none include wrenches.

I just push the button to lock the spindle and twist...my bp just screws on. I don't use pads that you have to lock on. I only use hook and loop. I think I know which wrench you're talking about now, and any makita retailer should have them.

the only tool you need is your finger:grinno:

there is a built-in spindal lock just press it and turn the plate

no tool needed

Oh, I just assumed it was like the UDM and you needed a wrench to remove the backing plate. Yes, I know what happens when you assume.

Hey everyone,

I went to try and change my backing plate on my 9227 and the plate does not COME OFF. yes i pushed down the button and turned the plate but it WILL NOT move whatsoever. can I just get a open wrench and grind it down and turn it or is the only way to loosen the pad is with the button?

thx.

I don't see how that would help you there is nothing to put the wrench on!

so you push the button and pull on the BP and nothing happens? wow hope someone can help you

yes just like the PC, there are two grooves where u can stick a open end wrench into right in between the backing plate and machine.

what?

the spindle is a male thread(opposite of the PC)

so if you put a wrench on it all it will do is hold the spindle

if your spindle lock(botton) is working the wrench will be of no help

don't feel bad man, when I first got my Makita I asked the same question. I thought it was like the PC. I didn't realize what that spindle lock was there for. :)

touchofdetail,

I hadn't used my Makita in awhile and when I tried to take of my bp tonight, at first it was a bit tough. It took a few tries but it came off. Get a stronger friend to remove it for you if you're really having a tough time. Good luck!

This maybe stupid, BUT.....you are doing the "righty tighty" "lefty lousey" I ask because I've had the same issues with stuff and the first thing I wonder is...
