I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this (or at least some of this.) I apologize in advance if it isn't.

A little more than a year ago, I was one of those persons that took care of their car by washing their car with Armor All wash, with a sponge from the hardware store, followed up with some TW. Done.

I helped a friend detail his A8, and he introduced me to the Porter-Cable, clay, polish and Zaino. I decided to learn more about detailing and discovered this site. I've learned a lot, but haven't really put any of this knowledge to the test, other than maintaining my vehicles. Until yesterday.

My gf's sister has a 2001 Jeep Cherokee, light gray. It hadn't been washed regularly, or waxed. She had it "detailed" four years ago, but the only thing that she remembers from it is the polish/wax residue on the black platic that took years to disappear. She doesn't have a garage. There were light scratches all over the body, with some medium ones thrown in. The thing that was bothering her though was that somehow the hood just in front of the driver was pretty severely scratched. It looked like somebody had set some boxes (or peach baskets) or whatnot on the hood, and then slid them on the hood when removing them. You could see them from five feet away. I told her that I thought that I could do something with the car.

Washed it. Clayed it. Busted out the PC and hit it with 105 with an orange LC followed by 205 with a white LC. I worked the hood pretty hard. Topped it off with some NXT.

It came better than I could have hoped. You have to look pretty hard for the scratches in the hood. They are invisible from 6-8" unless you catch them in just the right light.

My gf's father, who heretofore thought that I was a snooty lawyer with no practical skills now thinks that I am a snooty lawyer with at least one practical skill. :bigups

That last sentence is hilarious. Good job with the Jeep (my favorite vehicle). Do you have any pictures?

Furd- Glad things are working out so well for you. And yeah...I too got a kick out of your comments Re your GF's father :chuckle:
