Thank you gift appropriate?

I just received some body work on my car that was above the call of duty, and I wanted to thank him by sending a gift. Have any of you received gifts from customers, and if so, what was it? Thanks!:nixweiss

If the work was done by a specific person then a thoughtful gift is certainly appropriate. If it was done as sort of a general business practice then maybe a nice card or letter would be fine.

I guarantee you that if you send a gift to a specific person for work they did just for you (as opposed to the typical work they do for everyone), that gift will be remembered and talked about for years. Money and gift certificates are simple and nice.

unexpected tips ($$$) are always good. When I worked at a garden center, I had to load bags of mulch for people. Some got 50-100 bags. Most didn't tip, but those who did always got the better service the next time they came in!

They appreciated us more, so we appreciated them more.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. It is actually the owner of the shop. He ended up sanding down and painting my rear bumper when I was having repair work done to my passenger side door after I got hit by a deer. I know that this freebie is about a $300 job. And this is not the first time he has "thrown in" repairs. Last time he was getting rid of some rust on my hood and ended up tapping out a dent for me.

Tipping sounds good, but I won't actually be picking it up myself, Honda will. I was thinking of sending a gift basket of goodies with a thank you note? Do you think that is too cheesy?

Since it is the owner, I think tipping is not quite appropriate. I think the gift basket and thank you note sounds just right.

All two often in this world we forget to recognize others. Every chance I get now I am praising people for service and talking to their managers and lettign them know that their employees are doing a great job.:up
