Dear Autopians,

As a "newbie" to detailing, I would like to thank the many helpful denizens of Autopia for their help. From hours of researching, I have managed to isolate products I want that seem to be great in terms of their intended use (of course there are many comparable products), from Optimum's Power Clean, to Blackfire Wet Diamond Sealant, and even the 1Z Cockpit Premium!

I have also learned of such fanatics like Accumulator whose fabled washing method has granted him a title of OCD in my mind (Obsessive Compulsive Detailer... maybe not compulsive). Thanks to his write-up and a lucky happening upon it through forum searching, I am much more knowledgeable in terms of car washing. Then there's David Fermani, whose passion behind a toothbrush elicited similar thoughts I had when thinking about Accumulator. (He also had a special article which helped to show me the light)

Once again, thank you Autopians, as well as those who haven't been named whose advice I have read and taken as knowledge for myself. It has been a great learning experience, and I hope to learn from you guys more as I prowl the forums, digging up bits and pieces of sage advice when my schedule permits me to.

Yours Sincerely,

Hydrooxic Acid

Sad part is... supplies can be so expensive, and I'm sure that detailing a car takes a lot of time. My career goals will restrict a lot of needed time. Any words of wisdom? Section the car off into small projects to tackle every weekend or every other weekend?

First let me say WELCOME! And secondly, detailing need not consume your life. It just depends on the level you want to take it. I keep my cars clean and washed weekly, do they look like the cars that the Pro's do on the Click & Brag's - no, they're daily drivers and would be redonkulas to maintain that level.

Thanks for the welcome! Well, I drive a black car (as they call it here, a full time job). I'm the kind of person who really pushes to achieve when I set my mind to something, which is cars in this case (up until 2 months ago, school). I'm not pushing for perfection, since it's probably a little too late for that with my car (I will achieve close to this with the next one though hopefully!), but I would like to keep it looking clean and relatively swirl-free (without going to Accumulator-like obsessiveness).

Up until recently, I wasn't able to stomach buying a whole lot of detailing supplies as well (which unfortunately exacerbated the situation with my car), but I worked up the passion and nerve for it yesterday to make a sizeable purchase on DetailedImage. (Next big purchase to make would be a griot buffer whenever it goes on sale, if ever).

Anyways, if time is of the essence, and you don't have time to even do a decent wash every week, what would the contingency plan be? I am planning ahead in the event I become a medical student, in which my schedule as well as social life (probably by then close to non-existent) will have to be micromanaged.

Welcome and thanks for the kind words Hydrooxic Acid . I hope you find everything you're looking for. I love your screen name.
