I saw this on another website I frequent. Texas Mile is an event that is held every year, in Texas obviously lol. Any car/bike can show up and compete. But this record was set by a Ford GT twin turbo.
204.4 mph in the 1/2 mile
257.7 mph in the mile

29.5 peak boost, 8400 rpm through the traps!

Has anyone attended this event? Im planning on going next year, wont have a car to try though :(

I posted this same video on this site some time back but since that time believe that Hennessey's own Venom topped that number on a one way pass. Some outrageous number like 270 m.p.h. but couldn't back it up on the return run. These cars are mind boggling.

Edit: just looked it up but it was on the two mile run and was at 265.7. I'm still pretty sure I read the 270 number but can't find it to back up my statement.

ive only been 170 and it was pretty scarry

160 in a nascar on a track in the passenger seat wasn't as cool because the track is so big you hardly realize you're going that fast

270 would be crazy

How'd he beat the UR Lambo's? Their 4wd launch always puts em up top.

Found it....

Lamborghini LP570 Underground Racing R2 (2005 HP) ? World Record - YouTube

I don't know about world record but perhaps for that location. I'm not sure where that Lambo was running. I would expect that it not only has to do with the car but the location. The Texas mile seems to be where they've been setting a lot of the records but remember it's only for that location. Probably a lot to do with altitude. I've seen the record change a couple of times in the last 2 years or so at the Texas mile. Hennesy has a Ford GT that's set it at 267 mph. There's been a twin turbo Camaro hanging around the 250 mph mark as well. There's also a female bike rider that's running over 240 mph.

Guinness recorded another Ford GT at 283 m.p.h. It was set at Kennedy Space Station.

Here's the video of that one.

I'm not sure that this is the current world record but I think it is at Kennedy. As I've watched this, I've never seen a Lambo on top of the list but most of what I've followed has been the Texas mile. The Veyron was there a while ago but it takes a bit longer to hit its top speed (268) and hasn't been a top contender in the mile. That said, it's stock, these street cars are far from it.

This brings up a question... How fast would a top fuel dragster or a funny car get up to if unleashed for more than a 1/4 mile

It's a great question and one I'd like to know the answer to but what might be a better one is how long the engine would stay together? They're geared to be using everything they have as they go across the traps. To see how fast they'd actually go would require much taller gears and a driver with no fear. A Top Fuel car might be making 4 times the horsepower these cars are making.

You don't see true drag cars on the Salt Flats, they don't have cooling systems per se and just aren't designed for longer distances.

Both the Hennesey and the PPR record holder are running 5.4 liter twin turbo Fords. Not considered a Ford small block in the strictest sense (260's, 289's 302's and 351 Windor's). They're the twin cam Mod Motors (as in modular, not to be confused with 351 M or modified). I know I'm not telling you anything you don't already know Wally. Maybe someone else wouldn't make this correlation.
