Testing Optimum polish (pics)

Finally got my Optimum twins. With all the hype about this polish I thought I'd try it. OCP is kinda similar in density to ssr's maybe but a little wetter. Spreads really easy and like everyone says has a long working time. The first panel I did I didn't work it long enough which made it harder to buff off with a MF towel. The second time I tried it I continued to work it till it started to become translucent then buffed it off, which was really easy this time. The longer I used this polish on my car the more I liked it. OCP polishes very bright and even with absolutely no dusting :grinno: . I must say this is a quality product. I'm looking forward to using the compund. Here's a couple of pics, sorry for the cloudy weather no sun shots.

Looks great! The improvement in clarity between the first two pics is incredible! What did you finish your car off with?

I tried a couple things. First, making the finish on my GLI clear and free of any marks left by a polishing pad is not easy. To obtain this claity I have to follow with a finishing pad. So after OCP on a LC polishing pad I tried OCP on a black LC finishing and compared that to SSR 1 with the same finishing pad. I couldn't tell the difference. OCP finished as well as SSR 1 did with the same finishing pad ( I had two finishing pads, one for each ). Very impressive. I was also very pleased with how well OCP with a polishing pad looked after those swirls :xyxthumbs . Oh right you wanted to know the LSP, it's EX I love it on black.

something I've found, (and was very excited about) was how much a microfiber bonnet w/ some of the finest polish you have cleans up any marks left by a polishing pad. I use a speed about 1.5 on the PC. Hope that you try it out. ZERO Micromarring on black.

Your car looks great.

Interesting, I've never thought of using a MF bonnet for that. I don't even own one. Has anyone else tried this? Are the results any better than using a finishing pad?

I may have soft paint, but between the polishing and finishing pad, I had very slight micro-marring. The microfiber pad is THE ONLY thing that removed the marks.

I was trying some of my polishes in a small area by hand, and found that FPII and PO85RD cleared my paint back to crystal clear.

If you don't have a dedicated microfiber bonnet, you could always use a piece of foldeed microfiber just big enough to cover the pad.

sorry to double post, but I was using a 1000 watts of halogen light to look @ the paint from about 6" away. When I say NO MARRING , I mean NO MARRING. I was so glad that I could use the PC to get hand results.

BTW, I felt the bonnet to check for heat, and the bonnet was barely warmed after really working the polish.

I hope you guys give this a try and that it helps.

How much longer of a working time does OCP have compared to one of the SSRs?

Did you apply with a PC?

The working time of OCP is probably 3 times as long using a PC. With a rotary I wouldn't know. This is now my new goto polish.

SSR 2.5 is probably the most common. It will work for ~2 minutes on half a hood or say, a door, before it starts to dust (this is in a garage), OCP will work for 6-8 minutes.

Do you guys actually polish one section for 6-8 minutes?

It's nice to be able to if you need to. The great thing about OCP is that when you wipe it away, what you see is what you get!!!
