well on a detail today, there was a ton of tar, i mean just globs of it and i got most of it after about an hour with wd-40, gunk and then clay. i dont want to go through it again so i was wondering what are the best tar removers?

That's an easy one Z-PC will eat tar. I'd try alcohol first to save money but if that doesn't wotk I promise you Zaino's paint cleanser will make easy work of tar and bugs.

Autoglym Tar and adhesive remover every time for me.

Agreed, although I tried White95Max's (at least I think it was his) suggestion of using Meg's APC and that works great as well.

If it's fairly fresh tar an APC will work. If it's been there a while a solvent will be needed. I generally use Varsol as it is cheap and readily available. Spray the tarred areas, let dwell for a few minutes and wipe off. For big gobs you might have to scratch off the top dryed layer of tar to speed the process. I have never had any problems with Varsol but with any solvent don't let it dwell for too long as it might soften the paint.

how is stoners tarminatior? any feedback on that product

i didn't like it much. leaves behind a lot of residue. i still haven't found a great tar remover. i'm currently trying PB's Bug Squash and diluted Optimum APC both work better than Tarminator.

I have tried PB PwC, GooGone, Turtle wax bug and tar remover and clay. The only thing that worked for me was Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover and it worked great.

I've used Turtle Wax bug & tar remover with good results, however, I've switched to 3M all purpose adhesive cleaner.

Stoner's sells a can called Tarminator that works well too !

I just got that stuff and tried it on two trucks. 85 Chev and 01 Ford. Not only did it NOT touch the tar without hard hard rubbing, it had ZERO effect on dry tree sap, which is what I needed the most. Im taking it back to the store. Oddly, it worked to take white door scratches off the black side of my truck where someone had hit it.

When I've used Tarminator it does leave a brownish residue but that is easy to wipe off with any car wash or spray cleaner. In AZ perhaps the tar doesn't dry up as fast with the sun and heat. I always try to get the sun to heat it up first to aid in removal.

Ive used the spray bottle version of the turtle wax bug and tar remover and it worked great for me. spray it on leave a minute and then wipe off. 90% of everything was gone :bow

i think im gonna give the autoglym

pick up some mineral spirits at Home Depot or any other paint suppy or hardware store. It works great on tar and won't harm the finish. Just be sure to apply some wax afterwards.

I was not impressed with Tarminator, like Turtle wax bug and tar remover better but it sound like there are other good things out there like Autoglyym intensive

It works well on the light to moderate tar buildup. Spray on, let it dwell, and wipe off. Don't clay over -it will melt it!
