Taping down vehicle

when applying 3M smr, 3M finesse it II, and wax, do i have to tape down my trips on the 2000 acura TL? It does have those metal looking parts (i take it that's what you mean by trim). Is it necessary to do?

I haven't had any staining take place on the black trim of my cars with either the SMR or FI2. What type of wax are you using? I think most carnuba waxes will stain the black trim, but it can easily be removed with peanut butter. If you're worred about staining the trim, for piece of mind, just tape up the trim.

I'm not sure how the chrome trim reacts to any of those products. I've never worked on a car with chrome trim.

If you are using a machine with the polishes it's smart to tape off trim. It'll only save you from the hassle of removing the stuff later on.

If you are doing this by hand then careful use is OK. But try to keep products away from textured plastic trim regardless. It can be a real pain to get the stuff out and tricks like peanut butter don't always work.

what kind of tape do you guys use to tape down? is there a special type of tape i'm supposed to use? What about side rubber bumpers. Do those need to be taped down?

Use an easy release painters tape. Usually the tape is blue and can be bought in the paint section of Home Depot.
