Take water marks out of paint with a PC?

Hey, I let water spots sit too long on my car and now they have eatched through some of the clear coat. I want to get them out so bad. They are only noticable when you are close to the car, but when you are about 10 feet away the paint looks perfect. They are only on the hood, trunk/spoiler, and roof of the car. I have a picture (at the bottom), if you look close you can see them, right around where the roof line is on the trunk. It looks like there is stuff on the paint but its the water marks. I have clay bared, polished with Meguires #82 (fine polish) with a walmart buffer, and waxed with Meguires NXT. I am wondering if it is posible to get rid of these with a PC buffer with the pad set sold here, and a more abrasive polish. Anyone know if this will work before I take it to a professional. I'd like to do this on my own.

I hesitate to reccomend this, but, heres what I did on my friend's car to get similar marks out before I got a cyclo/heavy compounds.



Sand with 2000 grit CAREFULLY

Sand with 3000 grit

Buff out 3000 grit with Meguiars DACP and orange pad

Finish with finishing polish of choice (I used SSR1, but I that #82 by polishing pad would do ok).



If I had to tackle it nowadays, this would probably be my method:



2000 grit sand

Mezerna PG via Cyclo and green pad

Mezerna PO85RD via cyclo and LC polishing pad





Alot of guys would just use a wool pad and a rotary, that works too, but I'd personally rather sand than compound, I feel it gives me more control.



*note* I was a little vague about the wetsanding, I didnt mean to sand the spots, I meant to sand panel by panel to a uniform depth, with a sanding block ETC. Some guys might call it color sanding.



*DISCLAIMER* It works for me, I may have just gotten lucky more than once. If you burn through the clear, don't sue me please. If you take care and follow wetsanding guidelines, you shouldn't get into any trouble. I've never burned through clear, even with 1500 grit, and I hope I never do :).
 
I would not wetsand. Not the road to take because you will be chasing spots all around the paint.



In my opinion I do not believe a PC will help much here, it may help the finish look better but it won't do much in the sense of "correction".



Now since you say that they are "etched" into the clear we can also assume that a rotary and wool pad will not completely remove the water spots either but it should level the paint fairly well, perhaps be a 90% improvement.

It happened to me several years ago, my beloved Honda Accord. There were small spots all over the car. I brought to the pro and little he improved it. But I think the best you should try a rotary and wool. At least you try something rather than leave it like that. You may go to www.meguiarsonline.com and ask for Mike Phillips. He may be able to lend you some helps. Or you could drive to see him, if possible.
