Swril removal by hand using Meguiars products

I tried to get a few small scratches and mars out with ScratchX and got nowhere. After 4 tries it looked like nothing had been done.

I got out some #80 and using a foam applicator by hand it took the small scratches right out.

I then tried #80 again on a different place and it also took those scratches out immediately.

I have decided that ScratchX does not work for me and is just a wasted of time and energy.

I have also used 3m FI2 RC by hand and had great results.

I would rather use a stronger product and regulate the applied pressure to get the results I want.

Scottwax,

How to #83 by hand? Will it not haze? Tried it before but can't seem to break down the diminishing abrasivess... I guess it requires heat from the rotary to break down...??? After that I tried the 3M Scratch Remover and it seemed like performing #83 easily by hand when in comes to swirl removal.

Hi tripper. Well I'm not Scottwax, but last night I tried #83 by hand on the (black) hood scoop of my Subaru. The car recently visited the body shop and was polished afterwards by a "professional" detailer. What was previously a swirl free finish is now covered with buffer swirls! :angry

Anyway I applied the DACP with a MF pad and worked it until it was almost gone, before buffing it out. I was feeling kind of apprehensive about trying this because of the problems I've heard about using DACP (especially by hand!) But the finish is amazing! The swirls are gone, there is none of the dreaded hazing and, as far as I can tell, there is no need to follow up with #82, #80 or whatever.

But, based on the elbow grease involved, I'd hate to have to do a whole car this way! As I said, I'm not Scottwax! :D

Mirrorfinishman, thanks for the URL, I have bookmarked it and will take a look.

The products I was referring to in the earlier post are:

Gold Class Liquid Car Wax

Show Car Combo Pack (Deep Crystal Polish, Deep Crystal Carnauba Wax, Applicator pads & Microfibre polish cloth)

Alfisti, I have a Holden Calais International VT II. Bought it used and it has some pretty bad blemishes on the horizontal surfaces. I got it from a lease company at trade price so I accepted the not so perfect condition and the discussion I had with them, they reckon the 1st custodian parked it under a tree and the sap has eatened into the paint. That person then went over the blemishes with touch up and returned the car to the lease company filthy, to disguise the damage. I have had it nearly 3 years and work it with Meguairs Cleaner Wax so it is shiny but if you look closely you see the blemishes.

300C ordered and not released until October/November, I can't wait :)

With my old VW Jetta I didn't care about good shampoos, microfibers, wax, etc... now that I bought a BMW my approach will have to change. Unfurtunatelly I live in Mexico (I love my country, its just that I can't get all the nice products you mention!!) and the only good (??) brand I can get is Meguiars. I have a couple of questions:

- has anyone tried any of the swril removers offered by meguiars?

- can you recommend any of the products offered by this brand (ie. shampoos, wax, etc)

thanks!

¡Bienvenido a los foros! I surely appreciate to see another "paisano" cruising here. :xyxthumbs

Given the fact that I feel your pain, I would recommend that if you travel abroad to the USA get what you need there. I don't know where you are getting your Meguiars products, but what used to be my source of detailing stuff (Comercial Mexicana, bodega Aurrera, Gigante and similar supermarkets wal-mart style) only carry turtle wax polish :( Ah, and that "marvil" polish should be awesome for single stage beaten paints....

If Meguiars is what you can get, #80 and #83 are the way to go. I haven't tried this following approach, but maybe you can try ordering online from any of the excellent online retailers (www.pakshak.com, www.autopia-carcare.com, www.autogeek.net, www.detailersaradise.com and several others) they can ship to Mexico, but I don't know if they take international credit card (paypal with internation credit card works fine by the way), and I don't know what to expect from customs!

Congratulations on the very nice ride, enjoy it! Now it is time to spread the word about car care the way it is meant to be.

Alex, otro Mexicano más.
